Precisely because some will agree with this sheriff and others will not this is why we need to preserve the ELECTION and not appointment of the county Sheriff.
This allows the local people, on a widespread basis, to have their say about who is the chief law enforcemetn officer in the county.
See http://JohnsonCountySheriff.net for more info.

Unless Koons has an extraordinary large and extended family he won't win. Too bad he is probably the only hope to stop or at least curb the ever increasing gang violence.

I have seen some posts out of Grants, NM in this forum. I supposed the drug dealers up there in the armpit of the state, are keeping tabs on what is going on in the tri-county area. Grants, should anyone not know, is the most meth infested rats nest in New Mexico. The whole town is boarded up. It is on the same level politically and economically as Palomas but at least Palomas has shops that are still open. This post is so stupid that the only people who can make any sense out of it are druggies themselves.

LOL, is it not ironic that this post written at a 3rd grade level, is spewing low-life information about former law-enforcement officers (I use this term loosely). Citizens, read this post! Then ask yourself why and how would this type of individual know so much about law enforcement memebers in Grant County.

I don't think that's a secret. Everybody knows about Art and Vicky alcohol drama, but around here nobody seems to care. Come monday mornings you can't breathe around her because she smells so bad from the weekend binges,

This sure is alot of hating for an election. I didn't think cops here made that much. What is the salary for Grant County Sheriff? Other than that, and the old-school machismo role of "Sheriff", why so many candidates for a job like this one? Do the benefits and retirement hook a man up for life? Or is it something else.

FYI the Aguirres are all hot. HOT> and they don't bother me one bit. There is nothing wrong with family cops. There are family doctors and family bankers and family realtors.

Most of these posts do not have anything of value that would make a thinking person want to have any of the candidates running for Sheriff elected. No wonder it is what it is in Grant County.

If Raul looses their not going anywhere. As far as Koons, Vega, and the rest of them running...We all have dirty laundry..Thats just a part of life..I just don't see how that would affect a persons ability to be sheriff..Looks like all the canidates live normal lives just like the rest of us.

Ok "insider" Seems funny that you seem to talk a lot of crap about the deputies, the detectives and their families but you do not have the balls to put your name or tell them to their face!!!! You have no clue what you are talking about or whom you are talking about. And why do you bring in people that have nothing to do with this election??
You are a COWARD! Tell them your name and let them dig into your private life and family! These people you are bashing have children, grandchildren, parents etc. What do you get out of this? Satisfaction? for what? The Sheriff elects are the ones who put their names in lights, not these other individuals that are working for a living and may I add....Are human! The way I see it, all of you that are bashing the candidates have nothing better to do than interfere with what should have been a clean campaign. It is the voters right to vote for whom they want to and they have to live with the decision that they make. When you start bringing in innocent people and their families you, yourself are no better than the ones you are bashing! So in your terms...you are trash, scum, backstabbers etc.! Have a nice day!

Another waste of time. I listened to Villanueva self-promote at a county meeting. He seems like just another legalized punk to me.

In a county that has more police than it needs, Villanueva spent buckets of money on more units. Amazing.

And it amazes me how often I see sheriff's units doing things like running code down 180 only to jump into the Wal-Mart turn bay and go park without any more fuss. Why code? Are the donuts that important? Perhaps Villanueva gets hungry and that is worthy of sending units speeding through town to get the freshest ones with the chocolate sprinkles?

You have got that straight Frances! This is without doubt THE most corrupt place I have ever lived in my life! EVERYBODY who is ANYBODY in this town is "one of the boys."

Look at SCPD as well. They are totally unreal! They have some really good guys on that force, but hamstringed by the most inbred, entrenched bunch of corrupt people around. Take a look at just who plays golf with who! The sheriff's is about the same... Unbelievable!

Connect the Dots, your post appears to have come out of Tucson, AZ, and mine from Hasting, IA.

And, sorry, but I would not trust but a very small handful of Grant County law enforcement officers as far as I could kick them. The good ones are under the thumbs of the politically well-connected bad ones.

Sorry, but I would not list my name either. That would get me a ticket or three or four every day for the rest of my life... Saying negative things about cops can only bring you trouble. And they can get away with it... Ordinary people have to actually live within the law...
