My dad was Olen Vanover. Im not sure what year he graduated but I recognized Virgil Burkes name. My dad used to talk about how they went to the war together so they might have been in the same graduating class. My dad died in March of 2001.

Olen graduated 61 or 62, I also was in Vietnam the same time Olen and Virgil were. Virgil was killed in a jeep accident shortly before he was scheduled to come home. He was a classmate of mine. What a waste, just like the young women and men coming home now in caskets.

Is Mike Collier the same person who use to manage the Kingsway Plaza Mall? If so, when did he pass? And how? How tragic to have lost so many at such a young age. God Bless their families and friends.

I'll bet that I have heard of your name too then. Dad didn't talk a lot about the war but when we saw the Vietnam Memorial in Washington it really affected him. I was a kid then, but I remember him talking about Virgil and us getting a rubbing of his name. I've never forgotten his name or how it affected my Dad. I've often wondered just what he went through during the war. He spoke a little about it but I'm sure he held a lot back from me. I know he still had habits he picked up from the war that he just couldn't break, like waking up in the middle of the night for his patrol and to check his perimeter. I don't think many people realize that these one, two, or more years of war affect soldiers for the rest of their lives. It's a high cost they pay for our freedoms and they have my utmost respect. If there was one thing my Dad taught me, it was to respect our country, respect our flag, and respect our soldiers.

Yes, I know a little about my aunt Nedria. I don't remember my Uncle Eddie much at all. I was pretty young when he died. My Mom always spoke highly of him though.

If you can add to this list, I would appreciate knowing. We always have a memorial service at out reunions for our classmates that have passed.

As of right now, the list of deceased classmates is up to date. Guest and I both are members of the SHS Class of 1972 and we keep track of who is gone and have a special classmate memorial each reunion, to pay our respects to the classmates we have lost.

As for what happened to them, we have lost quite a few to cancer, some to kidney disease, heart attacks, some to car accidents, and a few to violent crimes. I'm sure there are more of our classmates gone and we just don't know about it.

Not sure if this is the same Mike Collier who managed the Kingsway Mall, but our Mike Collier died sometime fairly close to our 30th reunion, which was July 2002 and he died of cancer.
