They aren't gonna say if they are gonna cancel or not until the very last minute. Furthermore, they prob won't cancel even if it does get worse out bc it's gonna take a bus load of kids to get seriously injured before SPS would ever think of loosing out on the $$ of canceling school.

Everyone knows that Sikeston is afraid to close school due to bad weather. There is a certain amount of snow days built into the school calendar. Now, if they use NO snow days, then the school looses no tax money, but if they GO OVER the alloted number of days, then they have to do longer into the summer.
I have lived here all my life, and 35 years ago when I was in school, they NEVER closed school. You went regardless. Of course back then, you couldn't even wear pants!
That's the way it is.

actually, a school district does get money for a certian number of day s they must attend...sikeston has always been the worse school when it comes to not letting out based eon the safety of the children. You can't tell me they are thinking of the safety in weather like this. They are trying to get those days in so they can get the money for the free and reduced lunches and such. That's what these people who you think are just complaining are referring to. They also probably have children in the district who they are worried about so get off their cases.

Last year over at morehouse the students had to go outside to portal pottys, because they would not cancel school, this resulted in a child falling on the ice and going to the hospital for stitches, for days there was an old carpet covering the blood, so no one would step in it. the next time it was bad the canceled school, but I guess they have forgotten about that

SPS WILL NOT CLOSE SCHOOL FOR NOTHING. ALL THEY ARE WORRIED ABOUT IS THE MONEY. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WORRY ABOUT THE MONEY THAN THE KIDS. WHAT IF ONE THE BUSES HAD A RACK BECAUSE THEY DO DRIVE CRAZY ROUND TOWN. EVERYONE CLOSES THEIR SCHOOLS AROUND US EXCEPT US. THAT IS STUPID.

Well, it's like this. Most of the outside towns (Charleston, Bloomfield, Dexter, East Prairie) have country roads that students live on and school busses have to drive down these roads to pick up kids and the roads may be in a lot worse shape than those in town. The majority of Sikeston students live in town, where city roads are safer to drive on and most main roads are kept cleared.

The state requires the school district to go a certain number of days. Whether they go in December when it's snowing or May when the suns out they get the $$ you people are so concerned about. I don't know where you get the idea they base the decision on money. What money are you talking about?
Yes, and Sikeston goes more than any other school around, many more days than what is required. And guess what?! You can add a school day to your calendar year next year too. Before too long, SIkeston will be a school that goes all year long.

Well how about the ones who live outside of town where the roads don't get cleared. Or how about the kids who live in Sikeston and get bussed to Morehouse. I know for a fact the roads out that way were bad today. And I used to live on a county hiway, and they didn't do anything to treat or clean it. Are these kids supposed to be penalized because some board member can make it from Ingram road to Pine st on roads that have been cleaned?

Still haven't seen where SPS are closing. What person needs to drive around out there and see THE ROADS ARE BAD........
You would think they would call it so people can make arrangements for their kids if there is no school.
Oh I forget they will wait until 7:00 am to do it.

If Wal-Mart announced they were giving away free clothes this morning, but you had to bring your kids, I imagine you'd be first in line.

I'm sure there will be school tomorrow even though in the morning it is going to be worse because of all the slush on the roads will refreeze and have even slicker roadways. EVERYONE BE CAREFUL

The state requires 175 and SPS goes 180 so yes, they do go longer than required. They will probably not have make up this snow day either because of that. I do think they could make the decision a bit sooner than they do but some schools really jump the gun. SPS is not dealing with a whole lot of back roads either like some surrounding districts. I am not saying it's fair to penalize those that do live on back roads but you have to look at the majority here and most of the students live on streets that have been treated. As the poster above mentioned, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Get off their case.

I think the only reason
Sikeston Public Schools were closed today was because KFVS12 broadcasted live from Sikeston showing how bad the roads were in this area. The schools would have probably been open, otherwise. Thanks KFVS12!!!!.

You are an idiot..........I put my child's safety first, unlike people like you.
You probably hate it when they cancel school because you don't have a free babysitter!

I hope for your sake you do have school tomorrow. The topic of this thread is, "is sikeston public schools canceld tommorrow???"

It should say "Are Skieston public schools cancelled tomorrow?"

Good lord, please let this child go to school tomorrow.
(I hope it wasn't an adult who started this topic.)
