SI: Jovan Belcher And Kasandra Perkins Had A House Full Of Guns, And Belcher Was Joking About Them On Friday Night

Jack Dickey

snip

What's emerging now, between this story and Monday night's, in the Kansas City Star, is a portrait of a man who displayed plenty of warning signs. He was armed like a Central American cartel, and proud of it. He didn't treat his weapons somberly. He left them lying around his house. And he was out until dawn partying the night prior. This is how gun violence happens. We can't remember the last time we said this, but Jason Whitlock and Bob Costas were absolutely correct.

The SI report also does the meaningful work of shutting up the National Rifle Association's lead doofus, Wayne LaPierre, who suggested that Perkins might have been safe from Belcher had she carried a gun. But Perkins was a trained shot, living in a house that had enough guns to arm her, her mother, and the infant twice over. It didn't help.

So sure, the problem is Americans.
The firearm violence will continue.
you are about as antiamerican as they come aren't you? If you hate it so much, like another poster said ,then leave. I have been around guns my whole life. I have never felt the urge to shoot someone. The only way I would I'd if they were threating my family or myself. Of course I was taught gun safety all my life as we're my kids. It's not all Americans the few ruin things for the many

Not really. There are some Americans who are not firearm enthusiasts and who want the thousands upon thousands of firearm murders each year to stop. Further, they want to take concrete steps in attempt to reduce the carnage.

But, we are a minority and are coming to accept the majority are willing to accept the status quo and nothing will be done. Nothing. Murder suicides by firearm will continue. Mass murders several times a year every year by firearm will continue. Drive by shootings will continue. The gun culture will continue to worship at the altar of the gun.

It's the way this country is, effed up.

if it is not going to stop the killing there is no reason to take away something that 99.9% of people enjoy. i enjoy shooting you don't.a ban wont make anybody come back to life or prevent them from being killed in the first place. you want the murders to stop by firearm because you don't like guns and don't participate in enjoying them. is it ok that even after a gun ban if there was one that the people died anyway but as long as a gun wasnt used it was somehow less tragic to you? that is all just misguided nonsense.

Kassandra Perkins was shot nine times by Belcher. Do you want murders by firearm to stop? Got any idea how to take the first step to do that? Heck, got any idea how to just reduce the tens of thousands of firearm killings each and every year in America?

Squeezing one finger kills people. It's so easy it happens all the time. Squeeze=death. It's the American way.

i want murders to stop they aren't gonna. you want the ones to stop by firearm what about the rest? nevermind the fact they will still find a way to kill someone if they don't have a gun. i enjoy shooting and want to continue to do so.you sound off about guns like someone who doesnt drink alcohol that wants it banned to stop drunk driving fatalities.you want a right taken from me because it is a problem for a few and it won't change the fact that someone or some people will be a victim at some point by a whacko.just because something isnt "your thing" doesnt mean its horrible for people to own and enjoy guns.

Drink beer. Get behind the wheel. Hit a family of 12. Just that easy. Ban beer?? Ban all booze?? Tried it. Didn't work.

Get rid of cops and arm the people let the people police themselves. See a crackhead. POW. One less crackhead. Might just work.

I don't believe that. Shooting is just too easy. Americans who would never have the nerve to get in close and stab or beat can stand off and squeeze. Squeeze=death. Simple and American as apple pie.

I'm not calling for a ban on firearms. I'm pointing out the kind of country we have. A country that shrugs off mass murder by firearm several times a year every year.

no you are on here promoting your anti gun stance and it isn't that it is shrugged off. people sometimes just go bananas.has nothing to do with a gun or what country they live in.this stuff happens everywhere.you cant prevent it unless they develop a way to read minds and it doesnt matter what they use.they need better background checks but when you get a president talking about an assualt weapons ban and nra fear mongering you cant get what we need one wont let the other. they play politics.we need no bans we need a better system but we cant get it because when obama talks of a ban on what he refers to as assualt weapons, gun owners shut down on any suggestions that may help.they need to leave the ban talk alone which won't fix anything anyway and work for better system and checks.

There should be a federal tax on firearms and ammunition going into a pool dedicated to the victims and families of murder or mass murder by firearm.

Let the firearm enthusiasts pay for some of the carnage instead of insurance companies and taxpayers alone.

I imagine the tax could be quite low considering the massive sales of firearms and ammunition.

Lets also tax Super Stores, and let that money go to families who lost there smalls store due to fact they couldn't compete. Also lets tax Fake christmas trees, cause they are harming the business of real Christmas tree growers. Lets also make the families of Drunk drivers pay when there family members kills a victim. All these seem fair? Lets allow the long dick of the government to stick it in us even more!

When children are allowed to play violent video game. Watch violent movies, or movies where the bad are glorified. Listen to music that promotes lawlessness you have problems.

My opinion.

In 2010 - the latest year for which detailed statistics are available - there were 12,996 murders in the US. Of those, 8,775 were caused by firearms.
Preliminary data estimates that 32,310 people died in motor vehicle crashes last year, down 1.7 percent from 2010.
32000 is more like "thousands and thousands" to me than 8775.
Both are to high, but if I were to ban one, or restrict it more, which one would it be?
