How many pills a day do you take that is someone elses prescription ? How many different people do you ask each day for their prescription meds? How many people do you tell your neck hurts so you can get them to feel sorry for you so you can get high. Remember this, Oxycodone is 5mg of codeine and 500mg of tylenol. Tylenol in large doses eat your liver up. It's worse than alcohol if you are taking 10 or 12 a day. Your killing yourself.

There are so many people abusing prescription drugs, if they all quit the pharmacies would go out of business.

Do you realize everytime a doctor prescribes a medicine he gets a commission from the drug companies. It's all about the money. Have you ever read any of Kevin Trudeau's books, they are very interesting and makes you think how everything in this world is based on money.

Not to mention that the drug reps feed doctors and nurses at least 3 times a week. They bring in gifts of all kinds. I would not doubt that doctors take nice vacations every year paid for 100% by drug companies. There are tremendous benefits given to doctors that add to the cost of every prescription medication you take.It would be in the billions per year.

They are not, the Dr.'s prescribe them the patient then gets it filled and in some cases sells them for a profit. In some cases they are stolen out of Grandma's medicine cabinet. Anyway the producer of the medicine is not the problem.
It's over prescribing, illegal transactions and theft.

I take my meds right but I've seen lots of people who abuse them.I'm on 4 medicines & don't want any more,I'm not on nothing bad.Don't judge everyone for some peoples stupidity. As with anything out there, there will be people who abuse it.Have you ever met a true scitzophrenic,I have & it is a very sad thing to see to me its as sad as a kid with cancer. So don't judge everyone for something a small percentage is doing.

I am a nurse and have worked at a doctor's office. Yes, drug reps do come in often, but we are not fed 3 times a week! And what kind of gifts are we given? ink pens? WOW!! A good doctor will only prescribe a medication if they feel it is needed. When dealing with patients who complain of chronic pain, it is difficult to judge that patient's pain. It's not like blood pressure which can be checked. There is a lot of prescription drug abuse, but the drug reps and the doctors are not the problem.

I was not judging anyone. Just stating the facts as they are. I take medication and some of it would sell on the street at a good profit. I am just not the type of person to do that. I like my freedom too much. I don't abuse them either, I have had to take them for so long I can't tell I took it. Like valium, most people would take a 10 mg valium and pass out within ten minutes. I take a 10 mg valium and go to the gym and work out. I took a 10 mg valium and a oxycodone and climbed over 40 feet up a tree with a chainsaw strapped to my back and cut limbs. Most would'nt be able to walk. Maybe you should re-read what I wrote the first time. There was no judging there.

no need to apologize for the sweetie thing. I am a pretty sweet person. The key word in your statement above is "some". Yes, there are some who do over prescribe....but I feel that most doctor's do not.

I was not aware of such a thing either. Sounds like it would be illegal. I will check into that. I know many Doctors and drug reps. Honestly I think it's not true.

I don't know any doctor that gets his or her vacation paid for by drug reps or the drug companies. I do know that the drup reps are given a budget just like a lot of other companies and once that money is gone then there aren't anymore lunches. As for getting fed 2-3 times a week by drug reps this happens some I can not lie, but nursing and doctors alike have to listen to the drug reps pitch their product. We do not get fed for nothing. There is a lot of work that goes into prescribing certain medications. For one did you know that Missouri Medicaid will change their list of approved medications every month, so a doctor or a nurse never knows what will or will not be covered. So, then it's up to the nurse to try to get a prior authorization for this medication for the patient. Which, I might add takes time to get done. Then while you are trying to get this done, you have the patient calling you over and over about their medication, to see if it's been approved yet. So I think that a free lunch from time to time is well worth the time and effort that the medical staff puts into medication. However, I think that after the first of the year there will be no more freebies of any kind coming from the drug reps, thanks to our wonderful government. Because, we all know that they need one more thing to regulate in our lives. So what if a drug rep wants to give a doctors office pens, or sticky notes. I've heard a few doctors be brutally honest with some, if they didn't like their medication they told them so. So, how can giving pens, sticky notes and free lunches make a doctor write a prescription for a medication they don't like? Answer that one FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. WE AS A COUNTRY HAVE A LOT WORSE THINGS TO REGULATE THAN INK PENS.

I live on Virginis St. I have a neighbor that watches me when i go to work he comes into my house and steals my pills. I have a good ideal who it is and i have called the police both times but they have never talked to him about it. So anytime i leave now, i take my pills with me. One time he got around 90 pills, so he made some good money off of me. I had a key in my shed and i took and moved it, so far he hasn't been back in my house.

Those who are in need of regular pain management can not get it because of the people out there acting stupid about these medications. I go to the doctor with pain, and they want me to try this and try another something, resulting in multiple office visits, before they ever consider giving me something that works. I even had a doctor tell me that he knew something was wrong, he just didn't want to give me anything that would "cover it up."
