I am in search of a place for rent, at least 2 bedrooms in the Sikeston area. That are pet friendly. I have a 1 year old small dog, that is housebroken and does not destroy anything!
If anyone knows of any places available, please let me know. Thank you!

Get rid of the dog and you may have a chance renting from someone....Why do people who rent get pets..wait till you own something then get a pet...oh they would rather wreck someone elses stuff

Go to the homeless shelter in town. They can give you a list of all of the landlords in the area with their telephone numbers.

Yeah wtf is wrong with you? So what some people can't take the plunge into home ownership but still want to have a pet. I rent and have a dog. I would move out of a place before giving up my dog. Sorry I showed compassion for a stray puppy 2 years ago and decided to bring her home even though I rent. I am such a stupid person right?

My dear old uncle owned rental property for years. He always refused to rent to people with pets because he claimed they would "destroy" his property. Well he rented to a couple who had a teenage son a few years back and they also had a small dog they hid from him for about a year or so. He went by to pick up rent each month and do repairs and could never even tell there was a dog in the house. One night their son, while they were both at work, was smoking and drinking. He apparently passed out with a cigarette lit. It caught the curtain on fire, but the only thing to save his life was that little dog, who woke him up barking at the fire. Had it not been for that little dog who wasn't supposed to be there that young man could have died and my uncle probably would have lost the whole unit to fire instead of just having minimal damage. Sorry for the long post but I always found this story a little ironic and thought I would share!

You get my vote and respect for your comment. I sincerely appreciate all the pleasant moments my pets have given me and my children over the years. I wouldn't want to trade those times for anything.

My perspective as a landlord and property manager.... as long as a renter is a responsible person, I have no objection to them having a pet. Of course the pet(s) should be appropriate for the residence. A huge dog or perhaps several in a small apartment wouldn't fit my definition of appropriate. Since all of my properties are single family dwellings and most have fenced backyards, I rarely encounter a problem with my renters having dogs or cats. I do require a separate "pet deposit" as added insurance against damage, but in 25 years of renting to pet owners I have never had a single incidence where the deposit wasn't returned in full.

As difficult and painful as losing a pet often is, it can also be a teaching and conditioning tool for children. It allows (or forces) a child to know that all living things must eventually die. I strongly believe it helps prepare a child (and an adult) to deal with death more easily. For that reason and many others, I believe anyone desiring to have a pet should be allowed to have a pet......preferably a mammal since I'm not overly fond of reptiles or birds.

Anyway, obviously there is always two sides to the issue and I do understand why some landlords may have a "no pets" rule. But for me, I want the renter to be as happy and satisfied as possible so if it takes allowing appropriate pets, that's okay with me. Also, a satisfied renter will generally stay longer and I can assure you from my experience, I've had a great deal more damage from people moving in and out than I ever have resulting from pets.

Just my thoughts......thanks for indulging me.

Not at the moment in Sikeston. Right now I have one 4 BR/2BA brick ranch out of town between Benton and Cape. It sits on a two acre lot with a large fenced yard so there's a lot to mow & trim in the summer time.

A couple of older frame houses may be available in Dexter before November. They're presently being renovated and I'm not certain when they'll be ready for occupants. Both of these are down in the older area of Dexter "below the hill". They're both in decent neighborhoods.

One other one in Morehouse is vacant, but under contract for sale. I wouldn't want to rent it at the moment and then have to make someone move in a few months.

There is a possibility for a couple of 2BR apartments near Sikeston since the leases are ending next month. So far I have not received any indication whether the folks are going to renew their leases or not.

You can find my company on line and check out the website. It will show anything available for sale or rent. Just Google the website + SEMOgeneralproperties.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I did pay a $300 pet deposit for my dog and also pay an extra $30 a month. I have never had a problem with my dog destroying anything and totally appreciate my landlord for allowing pets. My whole apartment complex is full of dog owners and it is nice to see a landlord that understands the bond between pets and their owners.
