If you're talking about their Sikeston high school playing days, Blake DeWitt and Jacob Priday had very similar stats. In fact, I think they battled back and forth, as far as their average goes throughout all four years they played high school baseball together. Blake made it all the way. But, Jake had a great career at Mizzou and was drafted in the most recent draft by the Houston Astros.

Here are a few other players that were great:
Bobby Landers - Great pitcher - took 2nd in state as a senior in '01
Adam Garrett - Great shortstop - also took 2nd in state in '01 as a junior...played a year at Mizzou.
Kent Chappell - Great catcher - took 2nd at state as well and had a good batting average and a cannon for an arm.

I don't know much about earlier players in Sikeston's baseball program. But, I know there are many of the old school guys who had great careers at Sikeston.

There were more as well. There was Blake Ledbetter (played in Cardinals organization), Kevin Vent (pitcher for Triple A SF Giants), Mark Russell, Brian Montgomery, Garrett Taylor and several more from that age group. Also had Jared Self, Brent Self, etc.

Kent was ok as a catcher but i remember jason childers as a catcher ive been watching these boys play ball sense they were still using the pitching machine hell they were younger than 10yrs old and i have seen childers make ALOT of awesome plays!!He had a arm of a pro...sorry but he out threw chappell by a long shot no doubt!!Hell i can even remember him winning the MVP!!

Jason Childers didn't even start in high school. Chappell started over Childers every year.

I played on the 1976 team, we finished in top 4 of the state. Ricky Taylor, Bill Hampton, Jeff Limbaugh, Dale Deal, Gary Griffin, Ricky Standridge, Gary Silverthorn, Larry Jackson, David She'll. One heck of a good team

A man that lives in the past has no future. Move on nobody cares. Dewitt was head and shoulders above all of them. End of story. If you are looking to see your name on this pitiful sight you are at a all time low.

Nobody is disputing that he was probably the best to come out of the Sikeston Area. It appears as if someone was just sharing thier thoughts about baseball. Sikeston has a great baseball history. Ease up on the guy. I know him, he's a great guy!

Todays teams are bigger stronger faster than yesteryear teams. In all sports. There were some good teams in the past. Your wife was pretty in the past too. Life is a bitch. None of us are getting out of here alive.
