he does for alot of people so he must not think you are that overweight to need them. you have to be in a certain percentile as far as the height/weight charts for most docs to prescribe legal speed. makes sense. lot of ppl that actually need to eat more porkchops go in seeking to find something that will have the same effects as street drugs do. thats bad on your body as well as your heart. anyone on dietpills needs to make sure it doesnt counteract the meds currently prescribed and make sure it is positively working with your body..that is why most docs make it mandatory you visit every month that way your weight is monitored. too much weight loss in short period of time is a bad sign also. i am not huge by any means but by statistics, i should be weighing less for my height. he is a great doc and the nurse practioner there is wonderful too. he is very straight to the point with you also.

Dr. Keele at Cape Family Practice is an excellent doctor who specializes in Age and Weight. I am 21, 5'11, and weighed 160 and he gave me 37.5 mg of Phentermine and Lipo-B12 shots. I have lost 12 pounds in one week.

You should really watch Dr Keele. He really don't care about his patients. he is not friendly and he puts everyone on the same meds. The shot he gives is tetostrone. He puts everyone on thyroid med. i went to him for 5 months. i got so sick...sure I lost some weight but when I quit taking the pills the weight came back. Be careful that is all I have to say about Dr Keele

5'11 and 160, a good doctor wouldn't have given you any pills or shots because you were not obese. A little exercise for a 21 year old would have done the trick!

I agree with you on this, I don't know the doctor personally and didn't go to him. But my mother went to him last year for like 9 months. He put her on the thyroid medicine and would give her the shots plus pills. In 9 months, she lost over 60 pounds was looking great, and felt great. She decided it was time she got off them. Within two and half months of her being off them she gained almost all the weight back and has retained a lot of fluid from it! Now she's having to see another specialist to try and get the weight off. This doctor has put her on diet pills again, however the doctor stated that him giving her the shot plus being on the thyroid medicine. Their was no need for it at the time she was on it. Because at the time her thyroid levels were normal and she has never had problems with them. Now the new doctor is trying to correct it because my mother thyroids isn't normal now. Basically what I'm trying to say my mother's thyroids were fine and when this doctor got done with her. They are all out of wack. Although the doctor now put her back on diet pills this tim eits to help get her weight off again and this time instead of loosing 12 pounds in a week like she did before she's only lost 2 pounds her first month bc her thyroid isn't working properly anymore!:(

I know someone who died from taking these - lost a lot of weight real fast in a short time. She worked all day and dropped dead when she got home. Careful ladies, the ole ticker can only take so much.

Thyroid pills are NOT weight loss pills. Doctors disagree about what levels are considered low. Once you start taking thyroid meds you should NEVER stop taking them cold turkey. That can cause some serious health issues. Unless the new physician looked at her earlier thyroid results, they have no business stating they were unnecessary. Thyroid medication is necessary for anyone with a thyroid disorder. You can fall into a coma and die without the treatment. It's not an optional pill to take and decide to take yourself off of on a whim.

As far as I can recall I never stated they were a weight loss pill. My mother quit taking the diet pills (should have specified). however, when my mother went to him and he put her on weight loss meds. Her thyroid levels were NORMAL. He went a head and put her on them to boost her weight loss. It did, and then when she lost her first 40 pounds. He took her off the thyroid medicine. Yes he is very quick to put someone on Thyroid Medicine to help increase their metabolism. My mother isn't the only one that has gone through this. A few other people we know are going through it right now!

I have heard that diet pills will mess up your metabolism if taken for a long time. Matter of fact if you look at older meth users, most are overweight. I think anything that disrupts your body's natural functions could more than likely mess with hormone production and how your glands and organs function.

You did state earlier that your mother decided to quit taking them. However, if the doctor placed her on thyroid meds he should have been checking her levels very carefully through the whole 9 months. If he took her off, he should have periodically checked her thyroid levels until certain they had stabilized. If he is casually prescribing them then its negligence. As I stated before, doctors disagree about what constitutes a low reading. Thyroid meds are not something to be taken lightly. I've never met anyone with a thyroid disorder that feels good...even on the meds. It's a poorly understood disease that is poorly treated..at best.
