California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said she will introduce a bill on the first day Congress returns in January to ban the sale of so-called “assault weapons” and high-capacity ammunition clips.
__________
And the knee jerk reaction from American's gun culture will be to go out and buy, in volume, the very same military designed weapon used to murder 20 innocent children.

Senator Feinstein's intentions WRT assault weapons and high capacity clips highlight the desperate need for filibuster reform. I'm hoping the reform talk coming from Majority Leader Reid lately turns out to be more than just talk. If Senator Feinstein does not support filibuster reform hersef, the bill would be nothing more than cynical posturing.

House republicans will stop any legislation from reaching the president's desk but if the majority party in the senate is held hostage on THIS issue after THIS massacre then I've been right a along. Nothing will be done, this is how America rolls.

The sick irony is that following this horrible shooting in Newtown, the threat of impending gun legislation, and the media coverage of the weapon involved, Bushmaster's stock will go up. They will sell more weapons in the months ahead than all of last year, I bet. Of course Bushmaster is of course the manufacturer of the specific AR-15 used in CT.

A certain percentage, abeit small, of our nation's gun culture cannot wait to purchase their own Bushmaster AR-15 and parade it around to friends and family showing they own the "same kind" of notorious weapon used in the Newtown shooting.

I've already seen people on Facebook talking about ordering the Bushmaster line of AR-15 first thing this Monday morning.

"God" was in all those Catholic schools all over the world where pedophilia ran rampant, and it didn't stop the evil from happening. In fact, being "Men of God" provided a shield for these rapists to hide behind.

The madman's mother kept assault weapons in the home and encouraged her mentally disabled and socially backward son to learn to load and shoot them. Shame on her and others like her.

This should be a warning to all parents. Mental illness and guns don't mix.

"NBC's Meet the Press said it had invited the 31 senators, Republican and Democrat, who openly oppose stricter gun control laws to appear on the programme with Bloomberg and Feinstein. None accepted.
The National Rifle Association, the largest and most influential of the gun rights lobby groups, has been similarly silent since the massacre."

Sandy Hook Shooting Sparks Gun Sales Surge

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/17/sand...

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. has sparked a surge in gun sales, according to independent arms dealers across the nation.

Robert Caselnova, who owns a Connecticut gun shop located less than 10 minutes from the school, said firearms flew off his shelves over the weekend,***with multiple requests for AR-15 style rifles, a weapon Adam Lanza used in the Newtown massacre.*** Caselnova said he knew the Lanzas and that the mother and son had visited his store in the past, separately, but never made any purchases.

You know, the more I think about this story, I wish each person that rushed out, beat the crowds and was able to purchase the same brand or style of gun used to murder innocent 1st grade children, would have to do one thing. They should be required to stand before the parents and loved ones of the children and teachers recently murdered and boast that they are now the proud owners of the very gun used to murder their beloved children.

It's amazing how the Christian mind can justify anything, regardless how criminal, insulting or bazaar, for the sake of saving their religious face.

some one posted this on my facebook page and i thought i would pass it on:

GUN CONTROL STATUS
compare ten big "KILLRS" in the U.S.

1. Tobacco use----------529,000

2. Medical Errors----------195,000

3. Unintentional Injuries------118,000

4. Alchol Abuse----------107,000

5. Motor Vehicle Accidents-----34,485

6. Unintentional Poisoning-----31,758

7. Drug Abuse----------25,500

8. Unintentional Falls---------24,792

9. Non-Firearm Homicides-------16,799

According to the FBI, the #1 weapon used in violent crimes is a BASEBALL BAT. Now i didn't double check these status for 1 reason only, the left will not aggree with anything said that goes againist the thinking.

By definition, an 'assault weapon' is a made up term that describes anything you can use to assault another person, ranging from a thrown rock to a thermonuclear device.

For the purpose of this forum and liberal politicians, it's whatever kind of weapons they want to try to ban now.

Wikipedia will have a page on assault weapons. If you had a computer you could look it up.

Totally false. You shouldn't use Yahoo or Facebook re-posts to try to make a statement or pass a plausible fact. The baseball bat is NOT the #1 weapon used in violent crimes. But I bet the NRA wishes it was.

As you will see here, http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/index.cfm... , the US Bureau of Justice (BJS) says the firearm is the most popular weapon used in violent crime.

For the record, at different times, you've stated that Wikipedia isn't a valid source of information. Since you're recommending it, I'll take it that you now approve of Wiki.

First, all guns can be used to assault someone – even a muzzle-loading black-powder rifle.

Second, Congressional attempts to define this term were laughably ad hoc. To prove it, here's their definition of an 'assault weapon" (obviously written by politicians).

DEFINITION OF SEMIAUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPON- Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph:

`(30) The term `semiautomatic assault weapon’ means–

`(A) any of the firearms, or copies or duplicates of the firearms in any caliber, known as–

`(i) Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all models);

`(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil;

`(iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70);

`(iv) Colt AR-15;

`(v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC;

`(vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12;

`(vii) Steyr AUG;

`(viii) INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22; and

`(ix) revolving cylinder shotguns, such as (or similar to) the Street Sweeper and Striker 12;

`(B) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of–

`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

`(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

`(iii) a bayonet mount;

`(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and

`(v) a grenade launcher;

`(C) a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of–

`(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

`(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;

`(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;

`(iv) a manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and

`(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm; and

`(D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of–

`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

`(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

`(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; and

`(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine.’.

Here's where I got the 'definition': http://washingtonexaminer.com/media-myths-on-...
