Proponents of narrowing this stretch of Fruitville Road say it is daunting to cross, and making the roadway two lanes instead of four would unite downtown with neighborhoods and commercial areas to the north.

The best way to unite downtown with other areas is to speed up the commute to the area as opposed to slowing it down.
Entrance ramps and freeways are daunting to some but that doesn't mean we should do away with I-75.
Be of good courage, overcome your fears and cease with these baseless arguments.

What do you expect coming out of a bunch of planning elitists Bruce ??
Some of these people want to return the downtown corridor to some sort of pedestrian "euro: towne squarish centre of 100 years ago.
The Fruitville idea must be one of the dumbest misconceptions of ingress and egress that I've ever read about DUMB
It will place a chokehold on traffic and back up traffic for miles to the east ! 301 and Fruitville is already a bad intersection...so further down west to 41 will be to a crawl
Maybe they will install another traffic "circle" as well, just for good measure to screw up things.
