mammon on the mount

what the hell happened? we had the beginning of a nice bible verse food fight and these mammon-worshipping clowns gotta make with the jefferson quotes and lazy marxist crap?

jesus wasnt a socialist you know why? they didnt invent it yet. hell they had just barely invented the devil in those days!

he did tell people - not just the rich, but everyone - to give up their wealth, their worldly possessions and help the poor. but who gives a rip? that was a long time ago, right?

i know, i know, jesus' message wasnt that people should sell their stuff and give it to the *romans* so they could give it to the poor. he favored a more direct action. so he wasnt even close to being a socialist. he was just a very charitable person who gave all.

the difference between the original post and those that came later is that, if you had to pick a modern day economic system to project onto some brown jewish carpenter from thousands of years ago, he would probably pick socialism over capitalism in a blind taste test.

the difference is this: i can just say "sermon on the mount" which many of us could almost recite from memory, whereas later people struggle with twisting obscure stuff from acts to justify their "screw you i got mine and jesus approves" crap before giving up and moving on to quoting intellectuals and statesmen from later ages who...might have actually known what "socialism" is.

but neither the original poster, nor anyone else posting on this thread is worthy to so much as speak his name let alone put words in his mouth. i have my laptop here and there are people going hungry right here in bisbee, no?

mark twain was right when he said the devil himself can find justification for his acts by looking no further than the very word of god.

so it should come as no surprise that, as jesus reminds us, it is, at the end of the day, those peoples own fault that they are hungry. im sure someone can find me a bible verse to back that up. get to work, infidels!

personally, i applaud those who take scripture and twist it into little origamis of evil and paeans to mammon. the church founded on "the rock" of peter, upon whom jesus built his ministry and who is quoted above, wears this decadence like a...miter? crown of thorns? it is pleasing to see jesus church drowning in its own twisted decadence. maybe when it expires altogether His message can make a true comeback.

jesus is crucified each and every day by his own followers. drive those nails deep, boys!

me, im just waiting for this thread to drift back from the boring old jefferson quotes and back to the bible verse food fight. much more fun, and lots more latitude to justify whatever dumb political flavor of the month i happen to be munching on with the unnassailable power of the Holy Writ. i cant wait to go all psalm 137.9 on some brown people, as jesus intended.

For your consideration, the Sandhedrin were the Conservatives which would logically mean Jesus was a Liberal. Because everything He preached was contradictory to the norm, He was a super-Liberal.
