We feel that this was a very easy sentence for all
he put the people through. His mother died probable of a broken heart and all the stress she had to endure.

You don't even know Mark Vanhorn or his family. He paid his dues and all the money has been paid back and then some.
Before you go talking about other people and their families, especially someone's mother, you better take a look in your own closet. You probably have a few skeltons too.

Well I do know Mark personally and he is an admitted gambler among other things, who bilked families who prepaid for their funerals, to support his addictions. I will never feel sorry for this fool. And yes I knew Martha & Myron well too. Nice upstanding people in my community. Well respected and honest in the business. When Lee moved to Michigan all those years ago, things in that family went out of whack. Mark needed to have served the full 2 years of his sentence, not 9 months and then get out. Believe me, if this had happened to any other person, they'd still be behind bars. But because he's a "VanHorn" he gets a free pass for a do over. The only good thing is that he cannot get the funeral home back in his clutches and he lost his license as a funeral director.

So I know this is way long ago and Mark has been home for over a year but I feel like I need to say some things.
1)Martha did not die of a broken heart or stress, she had congestive heart failure for over a decade and had been on oxygen for at least the last 3 years of her life. Mark was her favorite, ask Lee I am sure he would be more than happy to tell you that. He always begrudged him that.
2)When Lee left for Michigan he wiped his hands of the business. The business didn't hurt until Mark was on his own to run. FYI Lee left in 84? and Myron died in 2000. So Lee leaving didn't make one bit of difference.
3)I would guess I know Mark much better than you and he was not a gambler, unless you think taking a chance on a mediocre employee after Myron's death as a gamble.
4)Mark DID take money that was not his,he DID hurt a lot of people, he DID pay it all back, he DID serve his time to the state and he DID ask his family and God to forgive him and they DID.

Oh and please explain to me how being a Van Horn gets you a free pass? I am interested examples to prove this to be the case.

One last thing, karma is a _itch and it got Mark (hard!) and it will get anyone else who messes with her. BTW judging others probably is a bad way to get good karma...

He is working in Columbus doing a job that he loves and spending a lot of lost time with his family.

I would guess a lot of people are only legends in their own minds. Nothing wrong with that, if you don't pat yourself on the back who else will...don't bash me only kidding.

A little off topic here but I just wanted to say that they young gentleman that took over the funeral homes is doing a wonderful job. He is very friendly and always has time for the families needs. He has worked very hard to build the funeral homes back up. Keep up the hard work young man!!

Both stole from peoples savings. Dodge got out of prison because he was dying of cancer??? HE IS STILL ALIVE !!!!!
Did anyone get re-imbursed?
I have considered pre-payment for my funeral expenses. My brother-in-law did and it was so nice for the family (Different funeral home)
