Driving through the little town that has grown so much lately saddens me. Progress is inevitable and that doesn't bother me, but the type of businesses appearing does. The C----Fried Chicken is a haven for thugs to hang around. At 4:00 a.m. there are groups of males just hanging outside of this store. I would be surprised if the owners live in Sicklerville and if they don't, they have no interest in preserving the integrity of this town. This the kind of occurrence that goes on in Philadelphia; occurrences that eventaully form a "ghetto." I came to Sicklerville some years ago because it was a great place to raise children. Because of the commercial "progress" it is not that kind of place anymore. Is Winslow Township devoid of integrity? You won't find C---- Fried Chicken in Washington Twp and you certainly won't find "hair" stores and braiding parlors. What price is this town paying for "progress?"

Dear Concerned Resident-

I can understand your concern but I think blaming ethnic centered businesses is not the cause as these businesses serve a purpose to the ethnicities that patronize those stores. However, the hours that these businesses keep is part of the cause. I know this store you're speaking of and it is a problem to see young men and women hanging there at 3 or 4 in the morning which will eventually breed trouble. I think there should be a business curfew which would curtail late night activity such as this. Also, Winslow Township Police should enforce the loitering laws which this clearly is.

Wow.. I have to totally agree with Val..Spells pure raciest.. I was born n raised in Sicklerville.. Doesnt matter what race you are . You can't be thinking that only black people make a town bad . Come on if you drive alitle further down the road all you will see is white trash .And yes I am white. But I;m not a raciest All races steal, sell drugs, hang out at stores and so on . You can't blame this on one race. Besides if you dont like the way Winslow is than move . Noone is making you go to these stores. Take your butt to Washington Twn and shop there. But onething though you will noticed that there are kids hanging out there to. Nomatter what town or state you are from "kids hangout" . Every color... every age.. So stop complaining and find yourself a nice island were noone can bother you .And to everyone else I apolgize for being so rude..But come on Is this person kidding me?

Sicklerville is right on track to be the next Camden! That's NOT being racists that being real. There is an obvious gang & drug problem in this town and Winslow Police should be taking a much more aggressive approach to dealing with it!!! I grew up in Winslow Twp and I regret buying a home here now more than anything!

Actually there is a braiding store in Washington Twp as well as Gloucester Township so get your facts straight. I understand what you are saying about the C-- fried chicken. I don't think that is an ethnic thing because i am African American and I wont go near that place. Its a poor mans KFC basically and found all throughout ghetto USA. It saddens me to see not 1 but 2 of these establishments within a mile of each other. But as for a braiding establishment would you feel better if the sign just said hair salon? Or does the fact that black people like to get their hair braided bother you? Funny how I get my hair braided every 2 months in Washington Twp. where most of the clients are caucasian and well off. hmmm... i personally live in a 450,000 home in Summerbrooke and havent come across any drug problems, theft or someone egging my car for that matter. I dont know where the rest of you live but I am happy and lived in Sicklerville since 1979. I do agree that we need to get with it as far as higher end commerce. I hear that Gloucester Twp is getting the equivelent of the "Promenade" in Marlton soon. everything skips us. not fair. Something like that would be great to help with school tax since I pay almost 10000 per year. 10,000 worth of taxes a year and 2 C-- Fried Chickens do not sound right to me.

As people from Camden and Philly move into Sicklerville, the town changes. What was once a very nice place to live now is becoming something else...it only takes one to cause a lot of damage and personal expense in what is normally a very nice, quiet neighborhood. I have had to deal in the past year with smashed car windows, car getting keyed, mailboxes ripped out, fighting on my lawn...I can't wait to move. FYI not everyone can afford to live in a 450K home...that does not mean we have to resign ourselves to living in a ghetto.

Just ask a Winslow cop about Sicklerville and he will tell you the ghetto is growing and it does not look good for the future of the town, state funded housing and apartments will destroy any town!

It's not about hair stores,or chicken stores, or even state funded housing.... really. Every body is always looking for a scapegoat. There are people that get their hair braided every other month, eat c----fried chicken every day and live in state funded housing, that were RAISED up right and have home training, and therefore have a sense of how to act in public. No matter where you live, or in what type of home, you have to respect those around you, and make the best of it. Every new generation that comes, the older generation always says that it wasn't that bad when they were younger...so nothing new there. Parents do your part and stop being scared to discipline your children and make them get home at a descent hour. If they want to linger out at 4am...tell them they better be working the night-shift somewhere and bringing back a paycheck. Change starts at home as our great president-elect said. If you notice, most good teachers don't even want to teach at the so-called "bad" schools, because they know that the stress of nondisciplined children is not worth the paycheck they are offered. When children know that they have no one to answer to and then they act out and up, the schools can't discipline our children, so they do what they can and put metal detectors and cameras. Kids don't look at this like, "wow, we need to change for the better!!" no, instead, they enjoy it. They love the thought that they somehow possibly intimidate the adults (teachers) and they think that they have a tough reputation that others will respect them for. When parents start to address these issues head on and show children that this is not the way to act and ensure that actions of disrespect will NOT be tolerated, then the "good" teachers may be more willing to come back to our schools and help raise our children up during the day, while we take care of the rest.
