We moved to this area in August that year because of inner city violence and a recent murder in our old neighborhood; we wanted a small town, communitee, and good schools. My daughter hated moving to the country, and came home to tell me about the murder approximately a month after attending her new school. New to the communitee we had no relation to the situation, but let me tell you how it did effect us.

First, we learned that horrible murders were not a product of an urban environment. And apparntly the greiving famiy had enough clout to postpone and/or badger a timely and effective police investigation, court negotations, arrests and speedy trials.

On that note; let me admit that I cannot imagine how I could live with the mixed emotions the parents have, in losing a child in such a brutal fashion, while trying to protect and accept that my other child was reponsible for the loss.

But gossip of the circumstances of the murder by this emotionally troubled and popular young man who was under house arrest, instead of being confined, and the apparent exceptions made for him to participate in social outings, to me, as a new member of this communitee is very frightening.

Too bad this kid didn't get help sooner ... weren't there any warning signs? Seems like an extremely violent crime. Sad all around for everyone.

Tommy Lynn Sells did it!
More then twenty very similar deaths attributed to nationwide convicted serial killer with the same M.O. about the time of this unfortunate Witman death.

I just came fromseeing my son where Zach is. Never met himor knew of what he was in for. He sat in front of me and I briefly spoke with his mom. This surelt does not have the demeaner to hurt anyone. Someone from a unbiased school of law should really looked at this case. Facts - Small town in the lime light from this, a loving brother aledgadlly killd his baby brother for no reason! Comon this kid looks like he could not hurt a worm on a fishing hook. Someone needs to give this kid a fair shot. He and his parents and his deceased brother deserve it.

I must say after reading what eyesoblue56 had to say I had to roll my eyes many a times. Let's not focus on a young boy stabbing his brother to death. That's not important! Gosh guys, c'mon! It's more important that I didn't follow procedure & I lost some money. "Maybe you should find a bank to investigate in New Freedom and find out why they are all crooks. They have hurt may people and ruined many lives. Not too many citizens in New Freedom know about this." again, no one knows because nothing ever happened. Let's see I lost my best friend to a gun-shot wound to the head. Unlike those friends of Gregory I got to see my dead friend lying there next to his mother, being able to see the bullet wound. Knowing that wasn't his real hair, and some of his face wasn't his either. But my graduating class sucked it up, and lived life. We didn't let something like that mess us up forever. And to say that your daughter had a terrible weekend because he father died two years ago, what the hell does that have to do with anything? Seriously...tick tock tick tock...oh yeah NOTHING. Maybe you should thoroughly think through what you're writing & realize it doesn't make sense, before you post it & make yourself look stupid. Just a thought on my part. For example: "Can't you people just leave New Freedom and the Witman's alone?" then you go on to rant & rave about how you're about to bring some horrible attention to New Freedom through the media...tick tock tick tock...are you kidding me? Are you the same parent that tells your child, "now honey don't drink or smoke or do drugs, they're very bad for you" as you're puffing away on your little dubie with a glass full of some gin & tonic? Yeah, you seem to be that parent.
your right what do that have to do with anything her brain is on empty if she have one, duh.

i would just like to say...i know this case is old, but i have talked to the witman family...and know very well that zach is innocent. this case needs to be looked at very closely by someone other than small town police that just wanted to put someone away for the murder so they could make their town "safe" again.... RIP greg && god bless zach. the truth will come out one day. i just know it. MUCH LOVE witman fam.

I agree...where would you like to see him shot at? In the neck like he tried to decapitate his younger brother?

On October 2nd, 1998, my daughter was one of the last people to see Greg Witman alive. She had also had lunch with Zach the day before at school. Greg was one year younger and Zach one year older. She was a freshman at Susquehannock High School. That was her first homecoming football game (on FRIDAY the 2nd) and her first homecoming dance (on SATURDAY the 3rd). When she arrived home from the football game on Friday evening she told me that Greg was dead. It had been announced at the homecoming game. Prior to that we only knew that he had been "stabbed". She had also just lost her father to cancer in September of 1996. What a great weekend!!!!! Can't you people just leave New Freedom and the Witman's alone? Maybe you should find a bank to investigate in New Freedom and find out why they are all crooks. They have hurt may people and ruined many lives. Not too many citizens in New Freedom know about this. New Freedom was my paradise but it has since ruined my life and I am still fighting. They will not win. You can read my answer to Fan of New Freedom to get some more insight for your next story. God Bless the Witman's. I hope they recover to the best of their abilities. They not only lost one son but two. Instead of investigating maybe you should pray. You will hear my story soon enough and it can't compare to what the Witman's have been through. However, I will tell you that the class of 2002 was forever changed by the events of that day. I have never seen such a "lost" group of kids that didn't know where to go when they graduated. Some of them made it but the ones that were the most promising are still lost or living a life that they never imagined they would live. I don't know how 2001 and 2003 faired out but I am sure there are catastrophies there as well.
I know life is cruel. I just want you to understand that the people under investigation need to be left alone. I will be more than happy to give you info on the people in New Freedom that need to be hung out to dry when I am able. They will not rest as long as I live -not a threat but a promise. I hope some of them are reading this. May they all burn in hell!
You start out with a self importance essence and wrap up with, leave it alone. How many times have you said, my daughter and Witman in the same sentence. You don't want it left alone. It's the biggest event in your world. New Freedom is no where.

Every year a student was killed from 1996 to 2002? If not Sells could there not have been some local psychopath, responsible for all of them? Did anyone look into this? If all the evidence so neatly points to this kid, couldn't that be an indication he was framed?
