Police not needed in Shrewsbury Twp.

Full story: The York Daily Record

This letter is in response to the YDR's editorial of Jan. 7 in which you chastise Shrewsbury Township for not joining the Southern Regional Police in order to provide local police service to Shrewsbury Township.

Mr. Solomon you forgot to add "soon to be ex supervisor. Thank you for your service to the township but it is time for new blood and new thinkers that realize times are changing. Look around at all the developments you have approved while chairing the board. This has created lots of new houses that are in need of police service and the service of a real township manager not someone just trying to appease his friends. Oh but that is right you were one of those friends

This is a strong statement from someone not living in the township but making lots of money from it.

Mr.Solomon, thank you for exercising prudence with my tax dollar. $300.00 can buy groceries for a Shrewsbury township household for 1 - 4 weeks. $300.00 can buy gas so a Shrewsbury Township resident can leave their home in rural America and travel to Baltimore, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Annapolis, and even Washington and Philadelphia work day. $300.00 is tuition for a Shrewsbury Township pre school child. $300.00 can buy a Shrewsbury Township child sports equipment so he/she can play sports. $300.00 pays for medicine so a Shrewsbury Township resident can manage chronic disease and cure infections. Please continue to be prudent with my tax dollar. $300.00 is a large amount of money.

Hate to disappoint you but I do not make a penny from Shrewsbury Township but you are right about one thing I do not live in the area and I am glad of it. But that does not keep me from doing my homework and learning the facts about these people.

I'll tell you what $300.00 doesn't cover, your insurance deductible after someone breaks into your home or car to steal anything if value to sell for drug money. You do realize these thieves target areas that do not have police coverage right?

We have coverage from PA State Police. It isn't like we have no police protection. I had to call them this past weekend for an incident and the PA state trooper responded immediately and handled the situation very efficiently and professionally. Why should we pay for police coverage we don't need????

I have lived in Southern York County for 25 + years. Only 3 home break ins occurred. Local people, not out of town druggies, targeted homes. You are more likely to have a Shrewsbury township home broken into if your teenager is hanging out with the wrong crowd than out of town drug addicts.

If you only knew, think about what gets rob around here the banks in the twp, and walmart one bank got hit twice in one week. Where are all the problems there in the twp not in the bourghs.

PLEASE you got lucky with a quick response from PSP I heard of them taking hours to responed, in fact I have heard PSP has asked South PD respone to the call due to them not being able to get there.

Yes this area was rural but it has done alot of growning up over the years and we need to stop being stuck in the past. I all for South PD taking over Shrewsbury TWP and have more cops in the local area. We might even get better speed enforcment I bet one cop could make his weeks pay check by just running a speed trap on Mt Airy from all you lead foots go to and from Walmart. The last time I saw PSP stop someone he clocked them doing over 50mph and failure to yeild at the traffic circle.

Mr Solomon one question if we are so rural then why did we need a TWP manger?

Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Local PD along with PSP caught the POS and how were they caught by having local PD in the area to responed quickly get information out there.

I stand corrected the same bank was hit twice just over a month apart not a week as I stated before

You have no clue what you are talking about, spewing such lies. Mr. Solomon has been one of several that have tried to keep Shrewsbury a nice town and not another congested area packed with house after house. We are 80% rural. Development is going to happen, you can't stop it, and you do the best you can with the laws that govern it. Any area can get a price from the Local police and that area can pay them if need be. When most find out how much $$$$ it is every year they decide not to pursue it. The State Police are very professional and do a great job, I would rather have more of them really. This town didn't "need" a Township Manager, they already had one doing that job for 1/4 the cost. Send us your donation so we can pay our taxes to pay for all this stuff please.

That $300 is just for some taxpayers, others will pay more a year. That money can sure pay for a good Security System and cameras if you are having a problem.

If you don't want to pay for police service please stop calling the PSP. I'm tired of my taxes going up because "35 of the boroughs in York county" have decided that they do not want to pay for police coverage. You people are stealing from those of us who pay for our own police coverage as well as yours.
I am watching you

Well I do not have any kids going to the school can I stop paying school tax and get local PD instead with that money.
Yes we do not house after house but they let them build a walmart now we have car after car and robbery after robbery. What next a Target, Kohls, damm why screw around let put a bis a@# casino behind True Value and get more car after car and robbery after robbery and still have no local PD

Sure 300 bucks can buy that but what happens when your alarm is going off and closest PSP is in Peach Bottom TWP you'll sure give them alot of time to take your stuff and get away.

PA is a concealed carry state. I'm sure we have plenty of volunteers who will sign up to patrol their community, and put holes in all those bandits driving up I-83.

I heard from a good source that PSP is thinking of charging local TWP, and bourghs somewhere around 50 buck per resident (not per house) for policing on areas that do not have there own police force. That would include yourself, wife, kids, and anyone else living at that address. This would help them offset there cost and some area just refuse to do it and have the money for it. If this would happen that $800,000 to $900,000 looks pretty cheap to me.

I'm sure I'll get alot of s@#t about his from the rest of you, but that's what I heard

You forgot that former Gov. Rendell veto the bill that would fix that loop hole.
The Castle Doctrine states: the use of deadly force in self-defence is not justifiable when safe retreat is possible, unless the person is attacked in there home or workplace.
State Rep. Scott Perry reintroduced his " Castle Doctrine" that would remove the requirement to retreat before using deadly force outside the home or workplace.
Maybe our new Gov will pass it this time
