Karyn Polito won the race for State Treasurer in Westborough & Shrewsbury. There is a reason for that. Not only was she an exceptionally devoted legislator, she has been a great humanitarian. Her thoughtful consideration to her constituent's needs made her a very unique legislator.
As soon as she was elected State Rep, she found the problem areas in her district and offered ways she could personally help. One of her first actions was to approach the Westborough Food Pantry and offer to help raise awareness of the need for food and to find ways to raise money. She started a charity golf tournament. For the past ten years that tournament has raised over $100,00 for the Westborough Food Pantry and the same for Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services. She held office hours and offered services to seniors and those in need. She has hosted a congratulatory event each year she was in office to honor and thank local folks for their small acts of kindness to their neighbors or folks who have demonstrated good old "American" values in their community. The event included dinner and was free to all. She passed special legislation that brought millions to the Jimmy Fund. And during her time in office, she started and raised a family along with working at her family business. It is amazing how much she accomplished and how much cares about the quality of life for those she represented.
Her unsuccessful run for State Treasurer, was our loss, not hers. We can only hope that other elected officials might try half as much to emulate her accomplishments and determination to better our lives in Massachusetts. Those who have been fortunate enough to reap the benefits of her hard work and kindnesses were there to support her last Tuesday. She was a winner in Westborough and will always have the respect and admiration of those she served. Thank you Karyn for all you've done.
