I am truly sorry to hear this. Corporate has no respect for someone that kept their brand visible in this area all these years. I will still shop at Albemarle Angler.

Look at corporate 7 11 opening up where texaco used to be on 29. Right across from the other locally owned 7 11 on greenbrier. No respect.

I hope that Alb Angler can hang in there. Stonefield is a cluster mess, and most likely will help keep people going to AA. My fear is that AA will lose too much business to stay open, and then the Orvis will end up closing later because of their location (or people will not shop there because they hurt Alb Angler).
Hang in there, guys!

Stonefield has got to be the worst designed shopping center ever if you have to drive there. When it is fully open it will be a nightmare except for those who live on the backside of it. I have not had the need or cabbage to go in AA in years but will make a point to go there.Orvis makes nice stuff but they are not the only game in the outdoor clothing business.

Stonefield is great - We needed a Burtons & a real movie theatre. I absolutely hate the traffic surrounding Barracks rd and never go there as a result. Been to Stonefield many times and never have a problem getting in and out of there.

I've been to AA many times, and have found their stock of Orvis fishing/hunting items to be very good. Not so good on their regular Orvis clothing, so now I go to Short Pump for clothes. I am glad that Orvis is coming to Stonefield and will use that for clothing, and continue to use AA for fishing items.

Stonefield is not as bad if you use the parking lots behind the business and walk to the shops. Car to store is closer than at Fashion Square for sure.

Stonefield has caused alot of problems for the independant businesses. For us across from this monstrosity the new traffic has blocked clients getting into our business. We have to tell our clients coming into town on 29 to take a right into the mall, center whatever..take a left then take another left..They created a nightmare.Causing lost clients .Corporate does not care how they effect small businesses. They eat us for fun.City planners knows about this and do nothing. We can only count on loyal customers , and we highly appreciate them..
..good luck

Orvis appears to be long on greed and short on principle; therefore, any Orvis products I might purchase locally will be obtained from Albemarle Angler! I sincerely hope others will do the same.
Local businesses need our support more than ever, and this is a classic case demonstrating how conscientious consumers can make a positive difference. On the practical side, it makes sense to support a business offering a variety of brands and angling supplies.[Besides, wouldn't it feel good to avoid rewarding Orvis for "playing dirty pool"?!]~ Walt

Mr. Oldham had the same opportunities to move to Stonefield but choose not to; he does not own the market.
How is Orvis Corp. any different than Wal-Mart, Costco, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, versus the local businesses?
They all started small and grew; it's not greed that made them popular; you did when you shop and spend your money at their businesses.
And yes government does not care about small businesses despite their rhetoric; they tax and control them out of business.
The choice to vote and spend was and is yours; for now.

Stonefield is terribly designed. Example: your passenger steps on to the curb into plants. ARE THEY SERIOUS?

Driving is also a challenge. Stonefield makes Barracks a joy to drive in by comparison.

It appears as if it was not planned but it is brand new! Hard to believe.

Why should AA be the exclusive dealer of Orvis products? Competition is what drives the market and keeps prices lower. Otherwise AA can continue to charge higher prices and continue fleecing their customers. Orvis sees a market that will be profitable for them and they need profit to stay viable. So who wins when their is competition-- the customer, who wins when there is only one store where a product is available-- the store.

Nothing like taking a high school level ECON 101 textbook understanding of the world and painting the world into it. "Yes, yes, corporations only do what consumers tell them and only exist by virtue of the fact that consumers love on them. There is no such thing as the exercise of economic power. There is only the exercise of political power. When something bad happens to people its the gubment's fault or because of their own choices....blah blah blah.... "

It works well as a rhetoric for corporations and in an 8th grade civics classroom. As a way of understanding the real economic dynamics of the world? NOT!

You have to blame the county ARB for the design issues. I think they are the ones who wanted this maze.

Fit as much retail in as little space as possible. Short term design with long-term problems. C'Ville City infrastructure doesn't integrate well with forced big city design concepts.

Seriously? Is fly fishing gear and supplies really about "keeping a brand visible"? If so, someone forgot to tell most of the fly fishermen I know. They don't g-a-f about brands.

So now Albemarle Angler will focus on customer service? Why now and not before? It seems they used Orvis' name to try and carry them while not working to provide the service themselves. One reason to drive over the mountain or Richmond for your fishing needs.

Driving down Hydraulic to 29 Stonehenge looks like a warehouse district. Wait till those big buildings get occupied, you'll never find a place to park. I quit going there, its ridiculous, can't get in can't get out, no place to park, what good is it except an eye sore. Albemarle really screwed the pooch on this one. No redeeming value at all.
