Welcome School Board members to your newly elected positions. In your decision making on the fate of
Richmond Public Schools all-inclusive educational services, Feb. 4th-20th, it is our hope that you make your decision based on facts, continual projected and actual needs and not the political cunning will of a few. Far too often educational fiscal decisions are based on the wants of, in some cases, the selfish, arrogant, angry, ignorant will of the out of touch few.In such cases one must examine oneself and motive. There is a thin line between politics and moral conscience. Now, while the Mayor's Commission on Poverty talks about and studies poverty, Richmond Public Schools has been addressing the needs of some of it's students for many years. It is our hope as well that you weigh the savings in closing schools verses the negative impact of more proposed reduced and neglected services through attrition and layoffs. Yes, you can save money by diminishing educational services, but those services, and ultimately the children, may suffer do to unforeseen circumstances. As an example, one can save money by not buying rain gear and snow shovels if it never rains or snows etc.
But it does.
In closing, there is an in house saying, we, employees who are dedicated and are already doing more with less resources, work at the pleasure of the Superintendent. We hope that you, as Board Members, work for the will of the people. Be not held hostage by those who may be spiritually blind and have shortcomings but do what is fiscally possible and fair to restore that which is needed and continue to fight, as a whole, for the betterment of an all-inclusive, conducive and successful educational service environment with the goal to be 2nd to none . Thank you.
Public Education: If one does not pay attention and become involved, one day parents etc. will have to pay for what is now free.- Be aware. Public can become Private.

While the Mayor talks about poverty, Richmond Public Schools has been addressing some of its students poverty issues for many years. The Mayor promised to address the issue of poverty in this city while at the same time holding back on school funding which will cause even more substandard services and poverty. One could say, the only hope for the working poor and the poor is GOD or the Va. Lottery. There is a perverse attitude among some that believe "We want what we want and what you need is of no concern to us." If we are not careful Public Schools will become Private Schools which will ultimately be based on affordability . Some didn't think this day would come. That day could come as well if we don't wake up, stay awake and get involved.
