these clowns increased spending on the premise of hitting the "lottery" of retroactive state aid. the first year they did not get it they still raised spending, and not taxes? and again and again? why are they still on the board? the residents get what they voted for by keeping this leadership in place

The chicken is coming home to roosts once again in the SWR School District. As stated in the article, the residents were just like a bunch of drunks on a spending spree while the LILCO Plant was paying taxes. I was a resident and homeowner during those years when money spent was no object because LILCO was paying 90% of the School Taxes. No one listened, many were made fun of when they tried to say the LILCO plant may never ever open and the School District could some day lose the plant as a source of tax money. People laughed at that and the spending went on. At one time the State had a plan to merge the 4 local school districts into one district to provide a more efficient larger school district. The residents spent thousnads of dollars and campaigned against that plan which went down to defeat when voted on by all the districts. It was the greed of the SWR residents who did not want to share the LILCO Tax monies and did not want the State plan to succeed that motivated the fear campaign against the school merger plan that defeated that plan. At one time the spending per student was higher than the cost to send a student to most full time colleges, live in, that it was to "uneducate" children in the SWR School District. For all those lavish spending years, the quality of the education recieved by the local students lagged behind the other local school districts, a failure of the liberal school programs that were put in place by the spend and spend some more SWR homeowners.

No Bama tyr checking old news. It was the residents of the SWR School Districts, many of whom were egg heads at the Brookhaven National Lab, that fought tooth and nail to get the LILCO plant on line. The SWR residents did not care about the health and seftey of the rest of the people on LOng Island, they just wanted to keep the LILCO Tax dollars and needed the LILCO Plant to be finished and go on line. An informed person on this matter would be one who did not go to SWR schools during that time period. Read up then write about what you know nothing about

This tax increase has been known for the last year. Yet people did not go to the school board meetings. It amazes me that SWR school district got that aid to begin with. They should of been told if you want the aid, then you get the bill(power plant) that all of the suffolk taxpayers are paying.

Assume the budget is voted down, anybody know what the contingency budget would be? Just curious.

Does anyone run their own household budget this way? If you do then you are no doubt feeling the pain.

Why would the people running these schools and municipalities think the result will be any different for them?

Absolute flippin' MORONS.

What is needed is for the commercial taxes paid in Suffolk County to be pooled, then spread equally to all districts throughout the county. We live in a community with minimal industry or commerce and thus pay through the nose, while the 'Big Box" stores over the archaic school district line subsidize the adjacent district budget.

What we need is less GREED - kids being send to Madrid to study Spanish??? Other Long Island Taxpayers paid for that !!! That is disgusting.

The greed and sense of entitlement of the entrenched here on Long Island is disgraceful.

Parents paid for those trips to Madrid. The article implies that the school district paid for them. Misleading writing!

What's with Fucito? Haven't raised taxes in 5 years? Don't think so. What's with Supt Copel? Dosen't she make over 200K plus bennies? Same situation next year?? Why borrow, don't spend what you don't have. All of the schoolboard should be impeached and supts. riases should be rolled back. There has to be a parental lawyer in the area to start a lawsuit against excessive and un called for spending. Do these school board members run their own finances like the school district. VOTE THEM ALL OUT and stop raising school taxes. Pretty soon there will be no one left in district. Then what!!
