The Shoram/Wading River School District had a free ride for years and now they have to pay for their schools like we all have been doing all along. Stop Whining!

Wake up Joye. Those districts are going to waste the money just like S/WR did and then they'll be in the same boat. I'd like to know why you think any individual district deserves a "prize" at the expense of the others? If the Blighthouse and Fartland pr5ojects do commence they will increase the taxes on ALL of the residents of the towns and counties. There is plenty of housing and business space available, USE IT and don't pave over what's left of this island in the name of greed.

Mr. Brown...money isn't the problem in failing schools.

It's more of an attitude problem.

As anothger poister has pointed out as a reporter you ceratinly don't do your research. The Roosevelt School District has been under state control for years and hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars sent into the Roosevelt School District.

When one compaqres school districts Roosevelt has undoubtedly been the richest school district in Nassau County for a few years now.

What other school district in Nassau County has been given FREE state of the art schools in the past 5 years?

None of them although the Hempstead School district did everthing humanly posible to get the same "Sweetheart Deal" the Roosevelt District received from the state but the drug scandals involving the schhol board member ruined everything.

So get off your soapbox about things being fair.

Mr. Brown is not the schools it's a lack of jobs. Do your research next time. How caqn any child learn nom mattyer what school disrict theyv are in if they go home to ecconomic chaos and parents stuggling to pay the bills every night.

Maybe you should buy a computer? Or use the one in fromt of you?

It's not the schools or the teachers it is parents that can't find JOBS that can pay the bills! That does not create a stable home enviornment conducive to a child learning.

I dont know about the Brentwood project but I can tell you that the Lighthouse not Blighthouse as you put it will not increase taxes. I had the same concern as you so at the meeting in March at the Marriot I asked a consultant from the LH team how the project would affect tax rates of current TOH residents. He said that while it wouldnt cause them to go down it would alleviate them from having to be raised. So take it with what you will however that is coming from a person that works for the developers on this project.

You saaid that in the other thread, and it still sounds like wishful thinking. I'm sorry if I don't beleive that someone who will profit to the tune of billions is going to tell the truth. You'll be lucky if it only increases the taxes 10-20% but they will go up. the sewers will have to be upgraded, LIPA will have to build a new power plant to meet the demand, water, road repair. Good luck, you're gonna need it.

Why would they go up? When they have an increased base to pay the same amount? Does that make sense? It doesnt to me

You aren't looking at the cost of CREATING the new water, sewer and electric. The cost of buying more garbage trucks and hiring more workers The list is endless. It's useless to debate this as you've swallowed their line of nonsense completely. In a way I hope you're right but my experience tells me that you're not.

I am starting to agree that debating this with you is useless because instead of looking at the positives this project will bring you focus on the minimal negatives.

They're hardly minimal my friend. When you think of the fact that LIPA cries every summer about their inability to supply sufficient power to what's here, how will they manage to electrify all those new buildings without building a new power plant> When you consider that every summer we have water restrictions, how will we supply water to these new edifices? That's a real problem because we can't just build a new polluting plant as with electricity. Think it through. Things on this Island can't keep growing unless you can make the Island grow.

Let us go a step further.......Whether the parents have jobs or not, Cultural Differences determine how a group performs. We should not be afraid to say it out loud, here in our "FREE SOCIETY!" (smirk)....Does anyone see Asians failing our there in any way? Generally speaking, No. Other groups however, as a whole, do not do very good at all.
Your theory of economic stress to explain poor school performance is somewhat flawed. During the depression, many children were properly educated. Obamas hero Lincoln learning in his Log Cabin is a very good example. Anotherwords, it has to come from within oneself to want to learn. Some ethnic groups do not have this umphhh as others do.

Those things are hardly minimal. LIPA will have to build a new power plant to supply these new constructions. New sewage treatment and garbage disposal facilities will need to be built, and where we'll get the water I don't know. We can't build a bigger aquifer. All of these things are problematic NOW, without the lighthouse and heartland city and the indoor ski hilll that they want to build. You can't bring water to the desert without emptying an ocean.

With regard to water I had heard they intend to put in a new well. If you want you can go on lighthouseli.com and read the EDGIS so you can see how your concerns are addressed.

You're not listening. A new well will only pull water out of the aquifer that is already over burdened. What's needed is a new source.
