I am a mother of a 16 year old teen who I'm greatly concerned his friends are recreational drug users that are influencing my nieve son. Recent reviews of his emails, texts and computer searches, show he's been very interested in learning more info regarding heroin in Ky. After a confrontation and discussion, he says its research for school. Although he shows no signs of current or past drug use, I'm concerned his group of friends may be using recreational and lead him to experiment with them. Basically, from what I thought, heroin was an inner city, urban problem, but not here in Ky. I know that prescription pills are a huge problem, but never heroin. My sister, that is a local ER Nurse, says heroin OD's are up 150% this year in her hospital. Someone more familiar with the drug scene, please advise me if heroin is something my son could easily find or should I not worry BC it's obsolete in Ky.

Worry! Heroin is very addictive and easy to find. It has made a big comeback in the past ten years. Good luck.

Really mother. I personally knew two young people to die of heroin use here in Louisville. Tragic losses. Grill him, watch him, do your best and hope for the best. Young people are bailing out on life in record numbers because influencial older people are doing the same. If you don't save his life, who will? Good luck. To both of you.

How,many columbines happened pre 1960's...the decade aetheist hippies protested against god in school..hows it workin for us now in 2012?? Ohhh but there is no god..we are our own god...balogna!!! There is a guy in the Mall St Matthews that sells it. He hangs out around Spencer's daily.

Heroin has exploded in louisville and jeffersonville in the past few months. The most commonly abused pain killer, Opana, has been reformulated so that it is no longer snortable. Unfortunately, as I had feared when I first heard that was going to happen, heroin use has skyrocketed because it is the next comprable thing. Most opiate users start with hydrocodone, also known as tabs, which are easily found in many medicine cabinets. Opiate addiction, once it has started, is a life long disease. Please, if/when confronting your children about this, be supportive and informative, not mean. I was 16 only a few years ago and I can tell you, if my parents said not to do something just because, it did not have any effect, or even the opposite. If you discover that your child is experimenting with opiates, take him or her down to the Healing Place downtown and let them see the effect opiate addiction can have. Ask some of the people there if, given the choice, they would go back and do opiates again for the first time. All of them will say no.

Ya it's sad. I grew up in middletown 33 now. When I was a teen it was weed, drinking and some shrooms. And extacy a couple of times. Now the teens are becoming addicts from coke, heroin and pain killers. Heroin has been around if yah knew the right crowd but within the past 5 years someone flooded Louisville with it. I know like 3 friends hooked on that crap. Safe bet is to educate ur kids about this crap. Talk with em. Not at em. Let em know how easy it is to become another addict on the streets.

Seriously? I'm new to town and I'm sure he'd appreciate my business. But, how do I know who it is? Not easy to ask some stranger for dope.

(Please don't judge , u don't know me or my story. Have both hips and shoulders replaced and be denied pain meds bf u judge my heroin usage.)

Sometimes he's there with his girlfriend. They both are dressed in black and have that Goth look. The dude is around 22 but his girlfriend looks younger. Again, they sit either on the bench in front of Spencer's or down a few stores in front of the pretzel place at a table. Sometimes I hook up with them at the Cinnabon (on the side) but always in that end of The Mall.
All I've ever had to say to the dude is "got anything"?
The quality is awesome!

Thanks B Bob, but what time of day should I try? Morning, Day, Evenings, weekends? Just wondering because I can't go there all the time waiting around. Thx again for being honest and not judgmental.

I seriously doubt Louisville's finest are going to the mall and walk around looking for some small time dealer. They have A LOT more problems than this guy. Once again, I asked here because I don't want to get robbed, shot or arrested going to some random neighborhood.
