The states aren't asking for the right to label foods with GMO. They're asking for the right to require manufacturers to label them. The manufacturers don't want to.

The article has a link labelled "scientific evidence" but following that link only leads to a bunch of arguments that not enough is known. No actual evidence. The link is bait and switch.

If GMO got ban and people finally realized our food and water is poisoned, non gmo foods would rise in price. Thank God for pink piggies.

If "not enough is known" to label them, how on earth do you figure enough is known to eat them without a label?

Read more carefully. "Not enough is known" is the argument made for requiring the labeling. Then that argument is labeled, falsely, as evidence of how bad the GMO are.

And why don't we also require the brand of fertilizer on the label? Because not enough is known about the differences between the brands. And a list of all the species of ants that live near where the food is grown. Because not enough is known about the long term effects of exposure to those ants. And what if they use glyphosate to kill weeds between planting seasons? Wouldn't it be a lot more important to mention that on the label? Not enough is known about the long term effects of exposure to trace amounts of glyphosate.

The trouble with all these labeling requirements is that there isn't enough space on the labels. How do we choose which items to require? Glyphosate is a lot more likely to cause long term health problems than GMO are.
