It was only a matter of time for a tragedy like this to happen. People have to walk in the middle of the street because the cheap governments of Fitchburg and Leominster never clear the snow from the sidewalks. It pisses me off because I don't have a car and i hate being force to walk in the street. A lot of people are fed up with this and someone's gotta start some kind of petition and send it to the city halls of both towns!!!

Simple fix would be to actually cite the idiot's who do not clear there sidewalks in front of there houses. After all it is a city ordinance and fines can be given, no ???, And in no time at all the city would have money to buy many more snow removing vechicles.Yet on the other hand, The cities don't even clear public walks on city property either ( only clear area's that are heavily traveled so it makes the cities look good ).Obviously it's a little late and an accident has occured. Surprised many more people have not been hit or injured not to mention the school children..

My prayers go out to both the family of the victim and the driver of the vehicle. I live near where the accident happened and would like everyone to know that there are no sidewalks on that portion of North Street. I drove past the spot today and the ice does cause the roadway to narrow at that point. If there is any blame to be placed for this unfortunate tragedy it might be that the speed limit on North Street was raised from 30 to 35 MPH some time this past summer. Cars already speed up and down the road and increasing the speed limit has only allowed the traffic to get even more aggressive without threat of police repercussions.

Perhaps its time for the cities to put sidewalks in for pedestrians. Anyone ever try to walk to pop warner field on Litchfield Street? An area where kids go to the play ground or watch/play a football game? Come on Mr. Mayor, protect our citizens and put in sidewalks.
