The only thing the surrounding towns care about is their share of revenue that Devens creates for them....and as far as MassDevelopment goes, since when does the state run anything that doesn't cost 10 times more than it should?

I guess that the original plan drawn up between the state, army and the srrounding towns doesn't mean squat, just like anything else the freaking state or feds get their lying hands on. Originaly the land in the compound was to resort to its original town borders and a new incorporation would NOT happen.

MassDevelopment has pushed for Devens to be a town since 2003 and has been held up by the surrounding little pictures small towners who have been given far too much power in this negotiation.

The JBOS is nothing more than political theater. These people have the right to be governed by their own leaders

Wasn't the 'original plan' an actual law? Can there be two laws on this?

It was, but the Mass.Land bank was a signatory..SOOOO.. the freaking state disbanded it, making the law quite questionable. The JBOS have been fighting for the rights of the Towns, which actually still OWN the land, the state is trying to pull a fast one AGAIN. Agreements and laws mean NOTHING to this bunch of self serving turds. The residents of the Devens community KNEW all this BEFOREHAND and are being encouraged by the freaking State turds to push for township.

You really think that even if they make it a town, the taxpayers won't be footing the bill for everything that goes on in that place?

Hay, lets stop throwing at Ayer poluted land with unfunded promises to provide clean up and dictated requirements on what Ayer can and can not do with land that is susposed to be ours.

Hay, here's another thought; why don't we disolve Ayer and have Devens absorb us. We all would love to be riding on the States checkbook and not having concerns for balancing a budget, expenses, or revenues...

Does the Commonwealth of Massachusetts really need in these economic times another community? What is the importance of making a 352nd Community? Why didn't they make the Former NAS Weymouth a seperate and independant "community"?

When the "community" of Devens received bids for their children to attend schools in the area (the state dictated to the area towns to submit bids), why did they choose the by far most expensive school system in the bidding, Harvard? This speaks volumes as to the thoughts and modivations whats going on with Devens.

You have no idea what's going on and why Ayer keeps voting this down. Its not like the Newspaper really reports all that happens in the voting and decision making process.

The administrators that run that place for the State have over inflated salery and benefits that benefit at the continuing of the status quo; that is the real obstical here.
