Haircuts not budget cuts

The town is almost bankrupt yet Kendra Dumont and Andy Deveau vote to keep the Regional School agreement at 37% instead of lowering to 24%. This could have cost the town over $260k, but these two clowns rather play politics than do the right thing to save the town money.

If you can't cut hair well, don't try leading a town. Resign and take Andy with you.

You can't 'cut' the amount in the regional agreement. The assessment 'is' 37%...it is based on the amount of Shirley's student population, not on what you can actually afford. One way or another Shirley will pay the assessment....whether through your commitment to educating your youth, or through the Massachusetts State Dept. of Education taking it out of your town funds, a month at a time, the later is not in your best interest!!

Not argue, but to communicate facts. Ayer had already approved the change to make the split 24% before the ATM, so why vote no in Shirley? To mislead voters to make bad decisions, to argue based on emotions, will make this another marathon meeting season. Interesting that overrides are bad, but debt exclusions are OK. Still raises taxes to spend money we don't have

"The way the regional agreement stands now, the assessment split is 63 percent from Ayer and 37 percent from Shirley, but according to Bob Prescott, chairman of the Regional School Committee, it was the intent of the members of the Regional Planning Board was to have the split be 76 percent from Ayer and 24 percent from Shirley."

Bob - I guess if that was the intent of the RSC, I'm wondering why they allowed the towns to take these percentages to the town floors?

And if the percentages were different, 76/24, would Shirley be able to educate their kids then?
