Shirley scrambles for new leadership - Sentinel & Enterprise

In the wake of Town Administrator Kyle Keady's arrest this week on charges of wiretapping and taking photographs of unsuspecting and at least partially nude women, town leaders insist that municipal business will go on in Shirley. Full Story

Business as usual in this town is not good business at all. Having Ron Marchetti put in that position is just stupid. Can't these Selectmen realize that something HAS to change in this town. They should be bringing in someone from out of town with NO ties to it financially or otherwise and an unbiased eye to straighten things out. By the way, has ANYONE even considered that the bug in Ms. Rocco's plant may not have been placed there by KYLE. He did have at least 1 close friend in the Town Hall.

This guy is one sick bastard.... how could someone violate so many people under the guise of leadership ? I feel so bad for the women he visually molested and to all whose lives will never be the same by his sick actions.. Hope he goes to jail for a long time, but taping conversations carries more prison time than putting a camera in the bathroom... sick, sick, sick

The one thing that amazes me is that there is a Government Study Committee. Why? to see what others towns like us do? Really? It seems as though Shirley spends a lot of time and effort "studying" and then determining that all is ok as is or they do nothing. What about the Economic Development committee? How is that going? I do think it is time to look outside the town. Obviously we need a town administrator. Stop beating around the bush and get to it. Just another crazy waste of time to give some people in this town a "position" that makes them feel important. And Bryan Dumont is the Chair? That just screams conflict of interest doesn't it?

Obviously you did not attend the Annual Town Meeting that was held in May 2009 at which time the voters made the decision to form a Government Study Committee. If you had been there you would have heard the reasons for forming the committee as well as the expected goals. I can't imagine that those people who are willing to volunteer their time to help determine what the structure of the town should look like to prepare us for the future needs would consider this effort a waste of their time. As for Dumont being the chair at least he's willing to step up to the plate and volunteer countless hours to help the town. As for you final comment, he is not a committee of 1, there have to be several people on that committee and majority rules. You sound like one of those people who has nothing good to say about how things are done but are too selfish/ignorant to get involved. I say put up or shutup!

Oh please, he admitted to putting the bug in the plant and there couldn't possibly be more than 1 sicko working in the small building.

He had at least 2 that were taking off and going to Pepperell with him. Kind of funny Pepperell did not work out due to their insistance that the firing claus stay in the contract. I do fear that on June 30th, had this not come out, he would have been given another contract in the town of Shirley. How sad is that?

First, I was at that meeting and yes I remember. Sorry, I did forget and I apologize. I just don't think that that committee was put in place to determine whether we need a town administrator and I don't think we should wait until November for their report before we start looking to fill the position. My understanding was that committee was to look at the town treasurer, account and tax collector roles. I may be wrong. I am involved and do put in volunteer hours in other capacities. I often don't have good things to say but do see good things as well and I am informed and stay involved. I am absolutely not ignorant or selfish, but thank you. Bryan Dumont does have an agenda and has never lied or hid that fact. Thankfully there are other people on the committee, thank you for pointing that out to me. It was a good point I hadn't thought of.

They should clean house at the town offices.....re-elect people who care more about the future growth of this town from a business standpoint and lock him up. The town officals spend more time in committee than getting allowing new business to enter into Shirley and increase of cash flow. I have heard of businesses wanting to come to Shiley only to be denied in the process....meanwhile we are broke! You can manitain a small towm feel and have businesses that will generate income. Concord, Bedford are examples of a small town feel but they have cash flow to help the school and police/Fire... Lets see how much more they will find in thei investigation...did he take town money..we will see.

I agree the town officals are all questionable...
I have attended meeting with the ZBOA and I have seen fights/ disagreements that would send any future business owner to our surrounding towns and citys.
They can't think of the town and what is best...we are a bedroom town that needs businesses..

Keady was power hungry and pervert and control freak....what else did he do...steal our tax dollars to pay for all his spyware!!

It's a little hokey town and it sounds like all bases are covered. I believe that we once had a reginal concept of shared resources. Why don't we split the Lunenburg CAFO with Shirley. Then the Regionalists can actually claimed one of their buzz words "Shared Resources" actually has some merit to it.

Bottom line: Shirley cuts funding for the people who could have prevented it. The Shirley Police Department has positions cut left and right. Hire a detective that can investigate the fools who apply for town adminsitrator and let them dig up the dirt BEFORE this happens. But no, the town will just save $50 and hire a bozo. You get what you pay for. And looks like Shirley got what it deserved. The Red flag went off when he went to Pepperell and tried to strike a package deal with them. It set off a red flag for me just reading it in the paper, but I'm no selectman, I'm too intelligent. The town needs to take a hard look at how they do business. Keedy knew he wouldnt get found out for 7 years --- because nobody was assigned to check him out. Abuse of power comes from unchecked balance of power. He controlled the police dept budget -- "hmm...cut them and they will not be able to find me out" Good idea . Wake up Shirley, it may be happening right now. Keedy was stopped for suspected DUI ... and the officer did his job, but the town just looks away ... duh

FYI The Sewer Commission is self funding. The fees that are collected by them pay their expenses. They like the Department are not part of the "Town's" budget problems.
