Crime in Shbg? I am a widow and I wouldn't want him trying to get into my house. On the other hand, if he did, and I let my dog out, hypothermia would have been the least of his worries.I think Shippensburg should get some real crime to worry about.
I know that sounds stupid but obviously the police dept has nothing to worry about except drunk college students.
If you drive drunk you get cited, if you walk drunk you get cited.
Why don't they just make the town dry if they worry about it so much?
I will tell you why, they would not make any money if that happened.

Come on people being a little harsh huh. Now who hasn't gotton totally blitzed out of their mind. Stumbled onto someone else's property, tried to get into someone else's house, passed out on the front lawn, and nearly died of hypothermia???? I know for me it is a regular occurrance. Only in the summer time it is not hypothermia, it is sunburn and heat exhaustion. YOU MEAN THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE?????

I live in Shbg and am happy we don't have a lot of crime - but as a widow living alone, I sure wouldn't want that guy trying to get into my house and would be thankful that the police came and got him. I have had many friends over the years who have had to move out of homes they had lived in 25+ years because of drunken college students. Elderly women who were afraid of retaliation if they complained about loud drunken parties in the middle of the night. Friends who had young children who moved because drunk naked college students were in their yards. And what's really scary is that all of these university presidents want to make it even easier for younger students to legally drink. We'll have to hire even more policeman just to handle the drunks - and it will be at the taxpayers expense. I understand wanting to have fun - but it shouldn't be at other people's expense. I think Shbg Univ should do what some other colleges did - build apartment buildings on campus and keep the students out of the towns.

big momma: I think your idea about apt. buildings within the campus is a good one. My last year at BGSU, I lived in the professors' neighborhood and I still owe everyone of them an apology. That 1980 pig roast (three days), with the punk rock band showing up and the drunkin' singing @ 4:30 in the a.m. wasn't cool. When the police showed up with their billy clubs out, they asked where the holder of the lease was. We were scared. We pointed to her at the bottom of the lawn. Problem was, she didn't have any pants or undies on. We didn't have a chance at gaining any sense of decency back at that point.
Those were the days, my friends. |

Anka Danolovic - that was my roommate's name that was at the bottom of the yard. She was a public school teacher (sp. ed) with her Masters. We had to go to the jail and pick her up five weekends in a row after her second DUI. We were required to bring a 12-pack with us. I had no idea what an alcoholic was then. Anka was an alcoholic. She took me home with her to Cleveland for the weekend once; OMG, it was the first time I ever saw anybody have to drink beer the whole road trip, or any beer for that matter. She was from Yugoslavia - what a loud bunch, yelling, door-slamming. College kids go through a period of self-discovery, but I understand Ship residents not wanting that played out on their front lawns. But, have faith, one day they're puking at the end of your driveway and the next, they're in their cap and gown, ready to become one of society's best. It's hell waiting for the plummer all day and writing about the good 'ol days. |
