The residents who decided to remain on the island made a terrible selfish decision that causes vital resources to be diverted to assist these people. The worst possible scenario has come true and all the folks staying behind to ride out the storm have to hold on to are stupid warrior stories and how scared they were but survived. There is no honor in that only stupidity and a risk to their own lives and the workers whose lives they risk each and every day
