I feel that the businesses in Shinnston need to update or they will be like the ones that are closed. Sush as Harmers, when is the last time they put money in the looks of the business it is outdated big time. Jimmy's diner man have you looked at the ladies bathroom. For the prices he charges he could for sure clean it up some. Not trying to be negative just opening some eyes.

I wonder why the city has not condemned the buildings next to the bank and right across from Feasters Jewelers. These three building are structurally unsafe with the first one neighboring the bank leaning into the others. These buildings need to be torn down by the city before the situation becomes unstable and harms innocent bystanders.
This could be a solution for parking problems for businesses and renters in the area.

Shinnston has many good businesses. Small family owned businesses are almost a thing of the past, Demarco grocery is one of the few small family owned businesses left in town. It is a great little store and the DeMarco family treats their customers like family.

Another great business in Shinnston is Morgan Auto Parts, the guys working there go above and beyond to find the parts that you need.

The Shinnston post office is one of the most organized postoffices that I have ever gone to. The employees are so helpful.

Minor's Auto Sales is owned by a local couple. They are very honest and will do what they say they will do.

Teddy Brennan is another fine car salesman.

Shinnston has some really good restaurants. I have no complaints with any of them.

Shinnston is a great little town. I do hope that some will try a little harder to maintain their properties. Small towns with low crime rates are rare, hopefully all will take pride in their home town. I have a suggestion for city officials, plan a major city wide clean up for Spring.

I love Shinnston it's a great place to live. However, I was wondering about Frontier Days. Why is everything so expensive! I don't think I'll go back. The last few years have been outrageous. Wristbands are too expensive and the carnies pack up and go to the forest festival before the fair ends. That's a rip off. Also a candy apple is $5. Come on!

I went to the Apple Butter Festival and a candy apple was $1 not to mention people were elbow to elbow Saturday night without any expensive rides.

Lower the prices! Get some decent bands for entertainment to draw a crowd! And don't let the carnival leave until Sunday!

I agree, the prices were too high, way too expensive for a family with children to afford in these bad economic times.

I also suggest getting some good entertainment and also having talent contests for different age groups from the very young to senior citizens.

Maybe some of the local organizations could sponsor a duck pond or a nickel toss like they used to have years ago at the school carnivals. The prizes would not have to be expensive. Kids love doing things like that.

I drove through town yesterday and saw all the landscaping work being doing by the trail across from the Rite Aid, it looks wonderful. The trees, shrubs and plants look beautiful. I think that was a very good idea. It would be nice to see some small trees in the downtown area some day.

Thanks to the Garden Club for the gift of landscaping trail head, activities park and sign at Ferguson Memorial Park. They received some money from a bequest and want to use some of it to beautify City for everyone. I'm sure if we get a grant to do a streetscape project, we'll bring some green back to the downtown areas. Thanks to all of you who have sent "do-able" ideas. I'll make sure they get to Frontier Days Committee, Garden Club, etc. If any of you would like to be involved with Shinnston Activities, go on the City's site www.shinnstonwv.com and e-mail us your web address and contact info so we can let you know when meetings are. Look for Halloween Event October 31, Veteran's Parade Nov 11th, Christmas Parade and Shinnston Community Band Concert on December 5th.

If you want to murder someone make sure you do it in Shinnston...Theres been several over the past 20 years that have never been solved...And they never will be solved with the rate of pay, and officers in the town...MR BIG has also harassed a young man that mows yard for my grandmother and does handy work for elderly folks about a business license...Give me a break. The same MR BIG has harassed my grandmother about her dog barking too loud. IF he ever pulls me over and instructs me to come to his car like he does some, I will keep driving....

I think that taking prayer out of schools was a major mistake. I don't know what is wrong with this country when people fought to remove a picture of Jesus from a school. I wonder what the children of the parents who fought so hard to remove the picture will be like in 10-15 years?

I am sure that someone could have identified the thief who took the picture but people just do not want to get involved. They just want to sweep things like that under the rug.

The city should give Barnyard a foot beat by the DQ since he spends most of his shift either there or at the Go Mart. Don't think the city police should be allowing their officers to just hang out at these places so much. I understand if they need something to run in and get it. But to just hang out there and flirt or BS otherwise should be cracked down on. Let's try going out and catching bad guys like drug dealers and thieves
