Just another way to screw the man. Big brother just has to have there hands in everything. Blame it on Obama. How about fining the tenant not the landlord. Just bullsh#t I tell you
bye bye scums

I love it. Cause afew slumlords to lose some big money and they will either pull out or start doing back ground checks. For the scums themselves they will get kicked out and be unable to find a new place and will leave.

Possible good side with no downside. I love it!!!

The scums will NEVER, EVER EVER EVER LEAVE!!! EVER!!! They will find a new way to get a court appointed lawyer, and cry DISCRIMINATION. So, no cheers just yet. Sorry.

The problem in Oneida isn't with the landlords. The problem is that Oneida encourages a certain class of people to relocate here and a certain class to continue to live here. Over the last 10 years, a lot of good, hard working people have left Oneida because of the increase in drugs and crime - the nuisances the law talks about.

Stop encouraging halfway houses. Stop encouraging programs like Liberty Resources to set up in Oneida and to relocate their clients to Oneida. Stop encouraging ex convicts to come here after their release. Stop encouraging housing projects for people who don't work but could. Stop turning criminals back out on the streets just because they dropped a few names of other known criminals. Stop turning a blind eye to some drug users/drug dealers because they "don't matter." Stop planning these big drug busts and raids that actually turn up very little in the way of drugs and start taking care of the drug issues every day.

Fix the underlying problem - the culture the city has cultivated that encourages these nuisances - and the state of real property would follow suit. Landlords are a business and are at the mercy of the local tenant pool. If the tenant pool is improved, the properties would improve as well. Starting at the top of the problem isn't going to fix the root of it. If the city moves against one property, the nuisance will just relocate to another, lying to the new landlord just like the old. Don't forget, the police have to actually make arrests for the crimes to show up in a background check.

If you want to pass public safety laws, how about one for sex offenders in the city limits.

Heard police were at domestic dispute on park ave. Yesterday , pushing and screamiing for an hour in front of police who only wanted order restored. No arrests. Is this the landlords fault.

So go move down south were they didnt expand Medicaid and sick and poor people (includes old ladies and children)can't get insurance. Maybe a tweaker will come and show you some southern hospitality. Then you can have a nice glass of flammable sweet tea together from your frack fluid and natural gas contaminated well. Your a moron.....maybe good paying jobs and affordable insurance would help.... Instead of McJobs. Remember the days when it was possible to have one income and survive? Bring back manufacturing make a law if it's sold here it made here. Drugs have been around for a long time and are not going out of style as long as they are illegal they will be profitable....and when times are tough more people do them. Wake up. Poverty brings problems.....it's been going on in the inner city's for years your just mad Oneida doesn't have smith lee, Oneida silverware, or places like carrier to employ all the unmentionables who didn't go to college and get a great career so they worked in factories and had health insurance and money to do drugs and take care of their families on one income. Unlike your pompous tight ass unempathetic self.:) have a nice day!

This makes no sense. It sounds like you are saying that someone with a low income should not be held responsible for their behaviors no matter how bad. These laws are meant to protect the people who do not break the laws or create a public nuisance whether they are above the poverty level or not.

Thank you for your eloquence! You've hit the nail on the head. Personally, I believe if people were paid a liveable mnimum wage, most of these problems could be alleviated.

Just saying 20 years ago people did coke, acid, shrooms and were driving drunk with kids in the car and still had jobs and health insurance without a college education......and weren't living off of food stamps not like now. Let me tell you how many friends I have that went to school for something and can't find a job in their field (not art majors either)or make 15 dollars an hour in today's economy (factory wages 15 years ago) and now have a loan they have to pay off that did them no good. People don't want to be scumbags it's just there isn't as much shame as it was because its a necessity...... Hmmm make 8-10 an hour full time (yea right why do that when companies dont want to pay full time benefits let alone hire full time)with overtime(which most of the greedy company's frown upon because it easiest cost controlling expense). Get it? Not to mention people that got laid off or fired to make room for part timers( hardly their own fault) or the mentally challenged that rely on the social service system( I'm sure your the type that would like to eat their meal at mcdonalds without a van load of "handicaps" looking at you while your eating you hard earned meal on your well deserved lunch break from the hospital that is paid for in large part by Medicaid. F off. Is that still Eloquent?

If there are jobs that don't drug test and pay decent and have health insurance people will work for their fixes. And if there were daycare vouchers more mothers would work. Make deadbeats go to the goulag with hard labor for eight hours a day If they get benefits or their offspring do. With jobs, daycare vouchers and accountability the problem would be solved. How can their be accountability with out a way for people to dig out of bad desisipons? Also people have been making dumb decisions for years.... Your parents decided to have you....didnt they? Oh I forgot when you fart it smells like frankkensence fresh from the wiseman from the east.

Own property feel free to keep it as you like. Don't like the way someone else lives? Move or buy enough property that you don't have to deal with people.... Your probably the guy who trims half their neighbors tree because it drops leaves on your property. Or complains about cigarette smoke but puts pesticides on his lawn and drives a humvee. Then you go inside and bitch at your wife because she didn't crease your slacks evenly. Or the guy that complains about kids in your yard but let's your "baby" mittens the cat out at night so it can piss on my porch and shit in my kids sandbox.

Example. PD gets multiple calls per week at lets say @ Madison St. A robbery or home invasion happens across town, the PD is dealing these constant bullshit calls and a murder from on of these call happens or a theft at Walmart or any other store across town. The PD/County/SP cant be in all the places. Shut down the reoccurring culprits tenants or the landlords that don't act on these repeated calls.

I never once said that someone with a low income is a scumbag. You are the one eluding to the fact I did. Believe me, I have seen the changes in Oneida having lived here my entire life. And, those changes are not good. I have been lucky enough to work for a decent paying company for almost 20 years and I am grateful for it. I go to work everyday and stay out of trouble with the law. I have friends who have lost everything they worked for because they lost their jobs through no fault of their own. BUT, they are not out there causing problems. The landlords should be held responsible for some problems but they need the support of our local goverment to get rid of the troublemakers. Enough said I'm late for my Mcdonald's lunch..... You are an idiot.

I did call codes about a specific building on main street where tenants live in filth and the top floor is not done but pigeons live up there and their feces are all over the place. How would I know? Because my daughter lived there and from the time that she was there until the time that she moved she was in and out of the hospital with illness. Come to find out there was pigeon feces in the wall of her apartment. So, calling codes in Oneida is honestly a joke because unless it benefits them, it don't happen because that would involve their fat asses climbing stairs

Good for you I'm glad god gave you enough intelligence to be such an upstanding citizen.....unfortunately you only understand the point of view of someone that's had a job uninterrupted for twenty years and have never been crippled by hospital bills or bad health. Have a glass of champagne tonight and toast your good fortune and hard work......here let me toast you also..... Ching Ching Ching to the lucky hardworking asshole Everybody.
