Such a terrible tragedy to come from good intentions. I was a scout for many years. This is a shame. May God bless all those involved.

It's sad to say that now and forever the parents will play the "if only" game over and over in their minds.

I once had a child on life support at St. Christopher's in Phila.; thank god I still have her, but 10 years later I was still thinking...what if I had just...

A horrible freak accident. No one's fault I suppose or is it? I'm wondering how the pole was installed. Was there a footer? Great care should be taken whenever installing or erecting tall sculptures and pieces of art. This may have been avoided. I'm certain the parents of this little boy will begin to have the same questions.

My condolences and deepest sympathies to the family.

WHAT? nO THIS IS NOT THE KIDS FAULT.. BOYS WILL BE BOYS... THEY WILL CLIMB, SWING ETC..... THAT IS JUST A GIVEN THE SCOUTS KNOW THIS VERY WELL . i KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY HAVE HAVE MANY MANY INJURIES INVOLVING POLE OF DIFFERENT NATURES ESPECIALLY FLAG POLES. THAT WERE MADE OF GALVANIZED STEEL WATER PIPE (OVER 20 FEET TALL - 2 10 FEET STICKS PIECED TOGETHER WITH COUPLINGS) THE POLE WAS ROTTEN AT THE BOTTOM STATE POLICE SAID. iF PROPER INSPECTIONS WERE DONE AT THESE FACILITIES EACH YEAR WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THINGS OF THIS NATURE. wE TAKE OUR CHILDREN TO THESE FACILITIES THINKING THEY ARE SAFE. iTS ALL ABOUT MONEY.
BACK TO THE Flag pole they could have gotten a real 20 foot aluimiun flag pole at lowes for $128.oo opposed to the $68.00 they spent on the make shift items and they were about 5 of these same poles in this scouting camp. Finally 5 years after the injury i am referring to ....they finally took these poles down. trust me they do not worry about our kids they are in it strickly for the money.
