I was traveling "on vacation" southbound in the right hand lane at the time of the accident and literally had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid another vehicle in the left lane who was also swerving to avoid the semi which appeared to be heading straigt for us.
Thanks to the median barrier the truck did not cross the median. The truck was traveling at a high speed given the flow of traffic at that time. My sympathy and prayers go out to the families involved. |

My cousin and his family were the pewter Tahoe involved in the accident. They were the SUV in front of the SUV with the 2 fatalities. They were all ok by the grace of God. They tried to help the Suv behind them. They said it was awful and the semi driver never even applied the brakes.

So what did the investigation find? Is the investigation completed? The original story hasn't been updated.

Another wreck on that stretch today 8/3/09. Three more killed. How many have to die before something is done?
Melissa, my prayers are with you. |

Yeah, heard about it on the news yesterday. 18-wheeler never hit the brakes and slammed right into the back of a car killing the couple in it immediately. There was a third person killed but I couldn't tell from the news story if he was in the same car or another one.

The 3rd person was a fellow co-worker of mine. He was a great person, loving father and husband. He will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to the Hoosier family and friends.

Saw this wreck and got stuck in traffic behind it for a couple hours. When I finally got up to it, it was rediculous. The construction needs better warning signs and needs to be hurried up since they are barely even working on this. Everytime I drive through Gainseville people have to stomp on their breaks and it is even worse now with the right-hand lane being shut down. My sympathy goes out to the families and friends of these families.

Unfortunately, I was one of the first few people on the scene of this terrible accident Monday morning Aug 3. I was aproximately 50 yards behind the truck when this unfolded. I, along with several others, did try to assist in everyway possible until police and medical help came. I am deeply saddened and hurting by what I witnessed and will keep all of the families involved in my prayers. I found this on the web and I am responding because I cannot stop thinking about you. God bless you all.

blame this, blame that... my prayers are with the families, don't get me wrong... but I think that everyone is looking for something or someone to blame. what happened is tragic. I know that God is with the families of the people that were injured and killed in this accident. But why blame this or that? why not just accept that something bad happened and keep these people in your prayers. The driver's of these semi trucks may have been the cause of the accidents, but what if they were not negligent? what if there were no drugs in their systems, or their log books were perfect, and they had enough sleep? what if there was no valid reason to back up the accident? these drivers have families too... please pray for them too...
