Why do companies do this? They should worry about word of mouth advertising. For a small magazine in our local area, this isn't a good thing.
Every month I have to have something removed from bank card after a one time purchase online. It makes me not trust these businesses and not want to do business with them in the future. Last month I was charge shipping for dance floor lights that they didn't send. Then they wanted to deliver the order and charge shipping again.
It's just not good business. I'll be careful with future dealings with this magazine.
Thanks for the heads-up...

Dear Mr. or Ms. violated magazine scheme.
Sorry you had a problem. Glitches happen. We did not know your account had been charged for a renewal. It had never happened before, as a far as I know, never since. When you informed us about the mix up, we immediately returned the money to your account. Rest assured that Texoma Living! is not involved in a scheme to finagle your $12.95. We want to keep you reading. Send me your name an address and I give you a free subscription for a year.

And no, I'm not in Carollton. I'm in Sherman. Why it says Carrollton, I don't know. Maybe this post will put me in Burmuda, I hear it's nice there this time of year.
Just wondering

Gee, I wonder if your animosity has anything to do with your being hired once as a freelance writer for the magazine, then never used again for lack of talent? Next time you want to slam someone, try using full disclosure to help readers of your post understand where your head might be.

Does not sound like something that would be their agenda. But neither does it sound like an editor post on here either.if the editor did write that post then anything goes over there.Crazier things have happened in Sherman but not usually out in the open.

They probably automatically renewed your subscription and took your money because they're broke. From what I've heard, several of their employees never got paid...that's why their staff keeps changing.

Plus, their distribution has been cut in half.

An automatic feature is on paypal accounts, you should check it out, it was an honest mistake. It was refunded as soon as it was showing up in our paypal account as a debit.

Bookkeeper, do you care to address the accusations of employees not getting paid and the high turnover rate among staff?

Is this thing going to continue or not?

The "next issue" does not have Lisanne Anderson in it, that was about two issues ago. There must be a reason you get them free, you get them about six months after they come out.

As the owner and publisher of Texoma Living I can tell you we're not broke.(We're not rich, but not broke.) The business is less than 3 yrs old and doing as well as can be expected in this strange economy.

People sometime confuse us with other publications, though I don't know why. We are the slick, full-color, 128-page regular size magazine. We are not available on newsstands or in racks at the local restaurant. We have a controlled circulation except for the small percentage of distributed copies to waiting rooms.

The current issue is May/June (features BBQ Joints, Shacks & Stands) and the next issue is July/August that arrives third week of July. The Spring (Lisanne on cover) and current issues were sold out in less than 8 days.

As to quantity: we have steadily increased the print run since beginning. We are now up to 25,000 copies that are distributed across an area from Whitesboro west, to the Red River, to Bonham east and down to Van Alstyne. There are approx 47,000 households in Grayson County, we deliver to 18,000 of them. The remaining copies go to public places like waiting rooms in hospitals and clinics, etc. However we never "rack or stack" copies.

Why do some people get a free copy?

We've addressed the question many times, but here goes again. Our subscriber list gets mailed first, then for each issue we buy a mailing list (from Equifax the credit reporting agency) of homeowners whose income, age and other factors meet certain criteria.

The freelance writers and photographers who contribute to Texoma Living Magazine are the very best and most talented in the area. The proof is on the pages. This publication is extraordinarily high quality for a market of this size. It rivals cities with ten times the population.

When you have a question go to the source for the answer. Anonymous comments without challenge are just what they are.

This entire post thread was started by a dissatisfied freelance writer in Paris whose work was rejected by our editors. She DID have her PayPal account charged twice and that was immediately refunded. It helps to know someone's motivation when they say not very nice things.

Different strokes for different folks I guess "reader". Personally I didn't care for a big part of the issue two back that dealt with a fired local newscaster who just happens to be quite the "party" girl around town.
