6 yr old still crapping his pants: out of ideas, please help

I have recently gotten married, my husband and I have 3 kids between us. Two boys, 10 and 6 from his prev relationship and a 6 year old girl from mine. My husband and I have had many conversations about his 6 year old son soiling his pants. I have done research on the issue and feel like I am at square one still. The pooping issues started before he and I got together and seem to happen every week- sometimes multiple times in one day. He uses the bathroom to pee, but has some night accidents.
The 6 year old claims "I don't know" to any of our questions on why he didn't use the bathroom. He also told us that he just simply does not feel that he has to go. I have done research on Encopresis, but he has one symptom- just a large amount of stool in his underwear. He's not constipated, eats well and does poop every few days, in his pants, never in the toilet.
We have tried taking things away, time outs, making him clean his own clothes, the shame of wearing a diaper, spanking, grounding. We're not sure what else to do. Sites have recommended enemas and laxatives but we don't really see how that will help.
The 6 year old girl does not have these issues, just the occasional bed wetting. I can't help but feel the boy is lashing out at her when he's in trouble- as she still gets to watch tv, or play on the computer and stuff because she didn't poop her pants. That is bothersome to both of us as well.
He knows that he has to go and chooses to go in his pants. He is not constipated, he can feel that he has to go but does not want to go to the bathroom, he'd rather not stop what he is doing. He has no trouble peeing in the toilet though. And just last night he went in his pants again.
He had been doing this before I came into the picture, just found out he was not fully potty trained till almost the age of 5

Sounds like encopresis to me. Have you taken him to the doctor? In encopresis, it may not seem like he's constipated because of the stool leakage around a massive plug of hard, dry stool - higher in the colon. The MD can check for the hidden symptoms. My daughter had this problem 15 years ago (she's 19 now). I felt terrible when I found out she had no control over this, because I had tried most of the same things you have and just got more & more frustrated. We had to WORK (together) to get her cleaned out and retrain her bowels to work properly - they were stretched out and had no muscle tone from being overloaded for so long. GO TO THE MD!

It sounds to me like you're awful hard on the little one. If he's still pooping in his pants, and you've tried all of the above - some of which is probably child abuse, I'd make sure he's seen by a doctor. It could be a medical problem that can be easily remedied. I seriously doubt he has any control over this. He's probably wishing for kinder, more understanding parents.
