Why is there not a public hearing healed before Chicken Houses, Milk Barns or Junk Yards are allowed to be built in that effect neighbors health and property values with in Marshall County? Have you ever lived close to some and do they really stink? Marshall County needs to get prepared and do a better job on setting regulations and holding public hearings on the Farming as well as the commercial industry. As to public The Public's Health and welfare before any thing can be put any where public hearings and neighbors health and welfare as well as environmental impact studies need to be conducted.

Something needs to be done about this soon! These barns are cropping up all over the country. Im 2 miles from the ones in Petersburg. I have on a few occasions noticed a slight odor, but so far, nothing intolerable. What is really bad is the waste that they spread over the fields. Some chicken litter got spread over a field 1/2 mile from my home. The odor was horrific for a week, until the rains finally eliminated it. Everytime you went outside, all you can smell was the smell of something dead, you couln't get away from it. You could not enjoy being in your own yard. This waste is a biohazard, they wont accept it at the landfill , so why should it be allowed on the ground to contaminate our streams and wells? If bird flu should ever break out and become an epidemic; im at ground zero!! These barns need to be put up out in the middle of no where at least five miles from any residence.

Waste spread over the fields just think about the waste the Lewisburg City Sewer Department is spreading over the fields of Marshall County how would you like to buy a farm where that had been spread in past years? There needs to be more records keep and attached to the deeds of all Land sold in Marshall County of what is or was dumped on it and required by law to notify future buyers of the facts about what was used as fertilizer or disposed on it as to future health risks. Something needs to be done is right and it needs to be foresight before the fact not after for that is why the county commission and the city council are a sleep at the wheel it always seem there is no foreside of the problems popping up we all need men and women with fore site not hind site. Complain at once to the newspaper and the county commission to prevent future problems for they are coming you can bet on that. Are those barns not in Marshall County? Public hearing of neighbors need to be before a lot more chicken houses, talking about spreading of chicken litter what about the spreading of municipal waste the city spreads. The County needs regulations on all of this and public hearings conducted before any permits can be issued to spread any chemical or waste on the Marshall County Land at once.

I heard something about the city spreading it's waste on farm land. Is it true and is it hazardous?

Very Dangerous
Lewisburg, TN

The sludged that comes from a sewer treatment plant contains all the chemicals that it suppost to for the treatment means that the water is pulled out treated and the most toxic wastes are in the sludge and if put on farm land will follow the food chain right back into out bodies as through the food, air and water food chain.
Very dangerous
My bet the city is liable as to future health effects if it is proven people get sick from eating crops or dranking milk from cows or crops grown on land where they dump city sludge.
This county should regulate all Chemicals dumped or used on the Land in this County!

From what I read the farmer who land the sludge is dumped on, becomes Liable for the whole problem.
So my understanding if you give permission for the City too dump it there you are held liable first.
Better know what is being dumped on your land if you don't want took take full responsiablity.

Me too someone ask the Water Department at the water department board meeting and the county comm. and city council at the city council, county comm. meetings be sure to ask in the public meeting so it can become a matter of public record. If they can not remember well maybe someone can.

I sold my house for $10,000.00 under the tax appraisal to get the heck away from those stinking chicken barns in Petersburg. I thought a house was supposed to be an investment. Amazing how something so stinky can come through & ruin the value. Sooo glad to be away from there period! I was very fortunate just to get out..I feel sorry for all of my ex-neighbors stuck in the stink

Why should people, who buy a home or land in a clean environment to raise their family be exposed to unhealthy air from chicken farms, hog pens, milk barns, factories or landfill dumps are any other stinking smelling effect that was not there to start with when those people bought their homes with out being compensated for the devaluation of their property and effect on their metal and physical health? Why would when county leaders are sworn to serve and protect not be liable for not serving and protecting the rights of the first present owners as to the devaluation of their property by new owners using land in away that devalued their neighbors land or health or even endangered their family as to rights and health? Could not an unregulated shooting range could fall under that category? What's wrong with the Marshall County Commission got too many Farmers who don't seem to care about their neightbors health and living conditions?

TDEC regulates the dairy farms, hog lots, and chicken barns. They all have to have permits issued by the state. If you think there are violations, make a call to them. http://tennessee.gov/environment/permits/cafo...

Did the State hold a public Hearing on those Chicken Houses as to enviormental and public impact? The local County Commission should take up the subject of protecting, it's own, close to home, not relying on the TDEC. Neighbors protecting Neighbors is what things are all about, Local Law Makers Can and should address local issues. When it concerns local citizens. Look at the Dump and the Chicken Houses when if the local County commission would regulate things like that, like they do Beer sales maybe we could have a better place to live and raise our families! Why do some wait and then blame some other state agency but thanks for the help.

There are reasonable places to build Chemical Leaking Garbage Dumps and Stinking Chicken Houses and it is not at the edge of City limits or close to many homes. The Love of money is the root of all evil and it seem too over come the smell of chicken shit and a leaking Chemical Garbage Dump I maybe can live with the smell, but can they stand to live in hell, for being a part of polluting the air and their neighbor’s water Well?

There was a town hall meeting because my daughter lives in Petersburg and she went to the meeting. When the people that live close to where they was going to build the barns they were told by the mayor there was nothing they can do. The barns were coming like it or not. That was wrong in my opinion!!
