I read that the city had given them plenty of notices. They found people covering holes in the floors with mattresses and a car jack holding up a tub. How in the world do they expect people to live in that sort of environment? Shut it down!

"Frank and Shirlene Sundvall claim Shelbyville officials did not unfairly condemned their Knightstown Village trailer park two weeks ago."

Huh? What does that mean? Does the Star not employ proofreaders and editors?

If it was NOT UNFAIRLY CONDEMNED wouldn't that mean it was fair?

This Frank Sundvall has a lot of rentals in Shelbyville. They are the worst, filthiest places on earth for the most part. Cockroaches and other type bugs follow him and his rentals because of poor sanitation. SHUT HIM DOWN AND GO AFTER OTHER RENTALS TOO THAT HE OWNS. He is a real nuisance.

What judge would be stupid enough to agree with them when he/she sees the pictures that were taken of this dump site?

Move everyone out of the Pheonix apartments into this trailer park, it sounds like a step up.

I know its an unpopular opinion but I don't think the Shelbyville local government has any business telling a property owner what he can or cannot do on his land. Nobody forces anyone to rent from him. His tenants are free to move on. Whining that "they're poor" and "he should take better care of them" and "can't the city help me" is socialistic blather. Let the free market operate. If the poor don't like the condition of their trailer park let them move up the road to some other trailer park.

The Sundvalls need to get over their slumlord selves. I bet they would not live in such crap. They are victimized. Right!
Oh ya sure

Who didn't see this action coming. Slum lords always claim their places are livable. Move these people into one of their own trailers, one of the worst, and make them live there for a year. Bet they change their minds in a hurry.

The Sundvalls should have kept their property up. Its to the best interest not only to them but everyone.
If a person had a pile of money sitting out in the yard he would surely put a roof over it. So I just cant understand why they dont take good care of the rentals.

I agree. I am sure that the trailers were not spotless. The floors were probably littered with miller lite cans and cigarette butts. There are probably pots and bans on the stove and in the sink with Mac and Cheese from six months ago still caked on them. Now, the city wants to go in there and complain that the landlord is to blame. If I were renting to people that treated their homes like trash, I would stop repairing them too... or I would put the wheels back on and roll the house down into the crick to warsh it out.

Well, this area now will never get hit by a tornado, so clear out the trailers, I'm going to build my dream home there.

Agreed. Nobody is forcing anyone to live there. The tenant chose to live there of their own free will.

Howver, the city has a right to enforce building codes.

.
You're probably right. They sound like slumlords, and it sounds like they need shut down.
.
The problem here is they didn't receive notice of the shutdown. If shelbyville had gone out and cited them and put them on notice EARLIER that they either needed to correct the deficiencies or be shut down, there would be no question now..
.
No government inspector should be allowed to walk onto private property and say "I don't like this. You're hereby condemned. Everybody move."
.
Don't ever allow that much power to reside in any one government official or you'll be reducing us to serfs.
