As was once said We don't want year round jobs in Vermont. They don't fit with our tourist economy. So what is the problem?? Just ask for a goverment bail out. After all if something is not working the goverment will pay.

Ah, great, except that Manchester just reported a big jump in room and meals tax. Must come from ... tourists.

I have been coming up to the area for years and have completely and irrevocably fallen in love with the South of Vermont. I'd be a resident tomorrow if there were sufficient jobs in my and my wife's fields (of course if there were tons of jobs in investments and actuarial science respectively, Southern Vermont would probably have to look a lot more like Boston or New York, thereby ending my love afair with it).

This year I am bringing five of my friends with me because we decided we wanted to get a weekend of "guy time" without our families. I am hoping they fall for your state as have I and those five will become 15 when they come back with families and so on and so forth. In the past my trips up (I drive up from Ohio) have been about me and I never wanted to share but in this economy, I have been forced to share my secret Nirvana.

Not that I would look forward to more people with whom to compete for rooms and I definitely don't need more canoeists or anglers chasing me out of my few favorites spots on the Battenkill but my love of the state has driven me to be an evangelist probably much to my long-term angst.

Hope we can get you folks back to being sick of the crowds of us flatlanders (and secretly thrilled as we fill the coffers) before too long.

In Brattleboro, they're doing everything possible to scare away business, industry, shoppers, and tourist. If the rest of the state is following their lead; Vermont is in for some rough economic times.
