it is kinda amazing things like ice creme are 1 to 2 dollars cheaper up there at their terre haute store. everything seems to be cheaper in a community that can afford the extra expense. Lack of competition here we need a super walmart

I love Baeslers! Great store, great people there and good quality. I certainly wouldn't drive to Terre Haute and spend GAS money to buy my groceries!

I like Baeslers, also. However, they are outrageous on some of their prices. $1.99 for a can of cream of celery soup and cr. of chicken soup. I am going to start buying my soup at Walmart or Dollar General. And whatever else I can save on. We do need more grocery competition in Sullivan.

If i need something special i go to that store. Two dollars for a can of soup is just a waste of money when save-a- lot is much more cheaper for the same can of soup. Baeslers is a name, nothing more. You pay for a bagger, basically.

Save-a-lot is cheaper and we should support all our local businesses. Do you know the Baesler family donates many food items and money to local organizations? Yes, even in Sullivan. Mr. Baeslers supports the schools as well in fundraising events, if asked. I saw him pay for someone's groceries who was short a few dollars, he gave my family a gallon of milk, because he was out of stock the day before. He takes all suggestions into consideration and treats his employees very well. As far as things at the Terre Haute store being cheaper, that may be true in some cases, but in others I found items cheaper here.

Use to go to Terre Haute every sat to buy my grocerys at Krogers. With price of gas etc now buy at home and save a lot is cheap and so is Baeslers on sell items so quit bitchen and shop around here at home As for Wal Mart if they tried to put in a wal mart super center What few businesses you have left would fold wouldnt that make you all happy?
I never saw a town in my life so down on everyone or everybody.

I do bi-weekly shopping trips to Terre Haute or Linton. Doing so costs me about $5 in gas, and saves me ~$30-40 on my groceries compared to Baesler's.

Oh, and 'on sale' items are reasonably priced? They already have terrible variety. Having to buy from only that 1/8th of that selection is absurd.

If you don't support the local business they will not survive and the town will die. Local business are owned by mom and pop not chains. Mom and pop are the CO's of the company and are raising their families in this community, not a big metro area or a foreign country. Shop local and support your community.

I like to shop locally too. But when it starts to cost more just to buy local rather than pay the big boys, how does that benefit us???

Someone in your family might want a job someday, Baesler's are good employers, ask their employees. They are also very generous with their donations for local things!

No, not an employee, just a customer!

I'm sure they are good people, and have an awesome store. However, when I can buy Campbell Soup at Walmart for $.75 and Zesta Crackers for $1.98, I feel like they are gouging their customers.
The day I was shopping for a certain soup there, they wanted 1.99 for it. I did go ahead and get it because I was tired and didn't feel like going elsewhere. Their Zesta Crackers are over $3.00. From now on, I will check other stores first for this type of items. Cookies are way too high also. I go other places for those also. This aside, I love what they have done with the store, and how they are trying to accomodate their customers. I will remain a customer there, and at Save-a-Lot also. I believe in supporting all businesses in Sullivan.

Gouging is a little harsh...Imagine the buying power of Wal-Mart versus Baeslers. Plus, Wal-Mart gets all their money from you in very cheaply made items from China, so they can sell food items cheaper. I do not think Wal-Mart employees are treated as well as Baseler employyees or customers for that matter...

well said there is no gouging, dont like Baslers then drive to terre haute an use $3.00 a gallon gas to save a little, I think its great we have such a nice store, the owner Bob Basler was n the store the other day walking around and asking people what they thought and if they had any problems, you wont get that at walmart or save a lot

Yes most things are made in China, I try to buy American, I check labels. However, try getting what you need without buying Chinese
made items. Hard to do. A lot of the fish from Baesler's come from China. I buy it, but don't like the fact that it does come from China. And I really don't know why you bring up how employees and customer are treated. I am talking about prices.

He/ she probably mention the treatment of employees and customers, because there are other things to consider besides what you pay at the register. Health insurance, I am sure it costs Mr. Baesler more. Customer service, coupons, returns, and satisfaction. All factor into bottom line costs that are passed done to you the consumer. It was price you were mentioning, well that all matters. As far as China, yes Wal-mart loves China. Go as Wal-mart if you made something would they offer your product in the store. Terre Haute or Sullivan Baeslers does.

Bottom line if you want go to Terre Haute go, just do not even bother complaining about locals trying to give their community jobs, customer service, and opportunity.
