Jason,
Yes, you are right I do have a vested interest in this issue-- I want functional internet service! Sorry, to burst your paranoid fantasy bubble but I am not a WiSpring employee and neither is Arthur Dellea or Nick Fredsall so stop grasping at straws.
You have taken the time to snipe yet again but have not offered those of us who use WiSpring a better alternative.
Paranoid fantasy bubble? I had to make sure that you were not shilling for the company. The one thing I do hate. So I tend to challenge anonymous posters. I do love customer service and a company that focuses on providing the best customer service. Because I care and because it's actually my job description to look out for the best interests of the residents of my town. I also have family located more towards the east of Massachusetts than Great Barrington. Springfield, MA. So I do have a vested interest on many fronts.

Snipping? I'm just dishing some heat. You need a suggestion. No problem. If I do find a comparable internet service in your area, I'll be sure to post a suggestion. If you do find other high-speed internet companies in your area, please post it here. Take care...satisfied customer.

Aurthur you saying you support fiber is the biggest joke yet. When they were going to put fiber down the pike in the conduit, you asked numerous times "What will we get in payment" for the use of the conduit. When I was at the meeting, my understanding was "we" was Great Barrington and "get" was more related to "payment" then actual service as the fellow from Verizon said, "broadband" and you said, and I quote "that isn't enough". When they said they would run fiber down the same easement for the rail line, you balked and wanted "fees" for the rail easement.
So DO NOT pretend that you want fiber or broadband when your greed and your hubris at meetings, public meetings mind you, says and proves otherwise.

When Richmond Networx offered to run fiber, via a contract with Verizon again your quest for "franchise fees" "and easement fees" as a representative of a Broadband committee killed that too.

Seems for a person that wants broadband and fiber you do everything to block it all the while shouting the benefits of a substandard service all the while lashing out that others are some sort of secret reps for "dial-up companies". Things that make you go hmmmmm or more like things that make you get that you are pulling all the stops out of your astroturfer trick bag.

Sorry BSS, thought you were a Richmond Networks customer, thought that was your email too.(Would feel sorry for you if you were.) Anyways, since there is no Time Warner cable in my town, and Time Warner refuses to run it here, BSS, how would you propose that I get Time Warner cable? Would you be willing to run a wire from your house? I find it funny that you still cannot intelligently answer ANY of my posed questions, so who is the real gas bag here? You can't sign up for a cable service that doesn't run by your own house, common sense. And you still don't have the guts to post by your real name. Since you're so good with spouting off at the mouth, I'd think you'd be tough enough to stand behind your own identity, but maybe not. And because you aren't, you aren't worth my time or energy. When you finally grow up and get some sort of GED, then maybe that will be the day. Until then, so long!
You even ascribe the wrong names and try and act as some sort of hosting provider detective and can't even get that right. At least if you are going to make up lies and claims, please address the right person. I did not post under a different handle to which you are addressing. Again very much an astroturfers handbook move. Blame everyone and think everyone who knows exactly who's bed you are sleeping in is just one person.

Here's the thing, I';ve been to just about every meeting on broadband in South County, been to the governors and lt governors meetings about broadband and many of the people touting "fiber" and "broadband" here did everything they could to kill it, by trying to "negotiate" (read:strong arm) various providers who offered to bring it in. They want fees, they want money for easements, and interestingly they all tout the benefits of a substandard service. So they block the competition and then hype a service that, if any other provider provided - a tier based pricing system for bandwidth that is never delivered, they would be complaining about.
So they block competition, complain about not getting service, and in the same breath force a monopoly on south county and actual act as sales reps.

Without your posts setting the record straight, Arthur could still pretend to care about getting people real broadband. Thank you very much for the straightforward, eye-opening posts.

Lose the objectionable content and your posts won't be deleted. Looking at some of the posts that have not been deleted, yours must have been very, very bad.

Jenny, you just don't get it.....we dont care about the future as much as we care about right now. We need to connect to the internet right NOW. WiSpring is THE ONLY option to many of us. PERIOD. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe WiSpring has upgraded some of their equipment last year. As far as WiSpring not working through trees, come on over and I'll show you all of my neighbors trees that the signal is going through. Sounds like maybe you work for the competition.
Actually Nick, it sounds more like you work for WiSpring - or perhaps some of you are part of the "local investors," Tresp mentioned in the article.

I completely understand people's urgency. I just happen to take a long-term view on this and think we should be putting our scarce resources towards a real solution for the future - fiber - not putting money and energy behind stopgap solutions like wireless, DSL and satellite. And if WiSpring wants to put their money where their mouth is, and be a part of the fiber evolution, that's great! Of course, if individual towns want to focus on the short-term with wireless and WiSpring is willing - it's a free market!
