We as humans over look the fact that the animals are part of our world and don't have the luxury of adapting to our every changing fast paced lives. What can we do, slow down and be more careful. Everyone is always in such a hurry to go no where fast.

It's not just turtles; children, adults and anything in between can be the victim of a careless driver.

I encountered one the other night. It was in the middle of the road and it wasn't moving. I put on my emergency flashers and picked it up and moved it to the side of the road. Upon closer examination I realized it WAS a tire.

They tend to not look both ways. They don't cross at the lights. And they take their sweet time.

By now, many of them have met a fateful end under the tires of vehicles. But many have been lucky enough to cross in front of caring drivers who actually stop and direct traffic around them, or help them to the other side of the road safely. "I just wish people would take more care, slow down and watch out for the turtles," said Pamela Berkeley, a Sheffield resident. "Some of these turtles could be 100 years old or more."

There are a lot of "caring drivers" who are not going to risk getting hit from behind while stopping for a turtle, or trying to maneuver around it! Let's see, safety of my passengers, car and myself or a turtle? Hmmm I VOTE FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE IN MY CAR!

A nation's descent into depravity can be measured by how it treats its UNBORN.

We're not doing too good on that...

A couple of years ago my husband stopped the car to move a turtle across the road on RT 8 in Lanesboro. An arrogant biker pulled over to throw a little temper tantrum about it right in front of my kids. Luckily he was able to move the turtle and my kids recognized what a complete jerk the biker was.

I'm sure most drivers will just kill them for the "fun of it" which is a true shame.

We humans are a very creative and imaginative species: we dream up all sorts of stuff: Zeus, Santa Claus, gnomes, god, etc...
