there is no place to park downtown. especially in winter, the older demographic, who spend most of the money, will not wish to shlepp through ice and snow nor will they be willing to walk a few blocks to get to north street. it is dangerous in a number of ways to do so.

You want manufacturing but then you end up with poison in your water, ground and air.
You would think you would learn by now this is the right thing for your area...an area that is predominantly based on tourism.

You should be looking for service jobs, in the technology field and the food/entertainment field.
NOT manufacturing.
A call center is the perfect job for your area.

This article was awesome- it's so exciting to have more than a few places to eat, see a movie, window shop or really shop. I was surprised to see how negative some of these comments are. Add them all up and you get jobs and economic recovery coming!

To Silly, and bee,
First of all Silly, mind your own business in Saratoga. Pittsfield needs better than minimum wage jobs to secure its future...Bee, you already live in a hick town so I can see why you would be excited. Restaurants are NOT going to save this city. When will the people finally smarten up.

I have used David Renner in the past as a caterer and he runs an excellent business. I am sure they will do great in Pittsfield and I would recommend any of his establishments to any of you

I hope this poor SOB gets the customary tax cut from Ruberto. The people are supposed to pay all the taxes for Rubertos friends and this case should be no different

Service jobs in the food/entertainment field pay $8-10 per hour. Can you support a home and family on that pittance wage? I'm sure you have or had a good job and think "we" are all cretins and should work for shyte money. Get a clue, please, and write intelligently here. We have enough of that attitude from our mayor, we don't need more of it.

I can say Thank's to all the manufacturing jobs that were here in Pittsfield.. I worked for 30 yrs in a factory and made a good paycheck with a great retirement plan..It is all gone now with a clean city and no jobs for most..Crime has moved into our clean city and I hardly ever go to downtown North St for fear of gettin shot, robbed or stabbed..I have lived long enough to realize that it was better when the factory's were here and most people were happily working and spending some of their money on North St..As far as poison goes it is still around us all in many different forms that we do not even know about.

Has anyone noticed the cheezy awnings at Jaes Spice. Millions in renovations and the awnings are looking a little faded.

Don't worry, Melle. You've already made the wrong decisions in life.

You disappointed your father. You've broken your mother's heart. And you continue to be a laughing stock in their hometown of Pittsfield. You're dishonorably discharged from the US Army. You don't work, preferring to live on a disability check.

Wrong decisions? You made 'em. What's worse is that you now spend your time critizing other people. What would your dad Bob think? He'd think you're a failure. And he'd be right...

I love how the old timers say that Pittsfield is a "clean city"....I guess all the PCB's and pollution form their "great jobs" don't mean anything.
They talk about the old days...how the jobs were good then show up at city council meetings bitching about PCB's.

Well guess what your "retirement" and "legacy" is PCB's for future generations. The primary reason many mfg companies DON'T want to be in Pittsfield; too many brownfield sites...and the worry that at some point the NEW company will be responsible for past transgressions of previous companies.

Great legacy you self-serving old folks.
