The Doctor is nice, but the staff is horrible. They never want to listen to what you have to say, or be cooperative with you. Just today I lost a contact and needed a replacement one, they told me i was due for another appointment and couldn't receive a contact until after the appointment. The earliest appointment available is at the end of the month. How am i supposed to see until then?

I do not recommend anyone doing business at this establishment! The management is beyond horrible (and that's being nice). All they care about is making the "sale" and nickel and diming every patient.

I received my new glasses last Fri. They hurt my head so bad, I couldn't wear them. I took them in to be adjusted on Mon. She twisted them around and returned them to me. I THOUGHT they felt better, but realized later they were now lopsided and still gave me a headache. I also found that the paint was chipping off of the top. I took them back Thurs. The pregnant girl told me I must be laying them down upside down and that's why the paint is chipping. Who does that? I mean really. I told her I'd like a different pair of glasses. They were absolutely not going to give me a different pair. The did offet to do me the favor of giving me 40% off of a different pair....as long as the lense would fit in the frame I chose. In other words, buyer beware. They sell garbage frames and will not back them up. They lost 3 customers today, me, my daughter, and my husband. I lost 80$ out of pocket on glasses I cannot wear.

Called for an appointment for my child and was told that because of his insurance (Caresource) that the office could not schedule him for an appointment until after May 2011. They are only one of two providers in Lorain county for this insurance and the other can only do exams in the office, you have to go elsewhere to get your actual glasses. When I stated that the appointment was due to a failed school exam, the person on the phone said to call back in April to see if there were any open appointments then and then proceeded to hang up! I called back and to see what they would for someone with no insurance at all, offered me an appointment for two days later (had several time slots available). I notified the insurance of this incident and filed a formal complaint. I don't think it's fair to discriminate against someone because of the type of insurance they care, especially in a county that's hurting such as Lorain.

I am very thankful to have Dr. Helfrich as my Optometrist. Both Sr. and Jr. are very knowledgeable about the field. I canít thank them enough for taking the time to thoroughly educate me about my current diagnosis. The staff was also very helpful. The two women that were working with me took the time to find a pair of glasses that fit my budget and preference. I am very happy with my new frames. I would recommend Dr. Helfrich to any one seeking comprehensive eye care. Keep up the great work!

I won't be returning to this office, EVER! First of all, after about a week of wearing the glasses that I purchased from this place (I don't have vision coverage, so I had to pay completely out of pocket) I started getting some pretty bad headaches. I called the office and was told by staff that I should just give it time, my eyes needed to adjust. After suffering another week, I went to America's Best in Avon (they offer a free exam with purchase of glasses + you can get 2 pair for about $70) and guess what? My prescription was totally different than the one Dr. Henfrich office gave me. I purchased glasses from America's Best and they are great (NO HEADACHES). I wasted almost $200 on this place and wouldn't recommended it to anyone!

First of all i want to say that i think it is exteremly important to form your own opinions. The Dr's at this office are wonderful they have tons of information and all the newest technology and medicine available. some of these reviews look like they were written by employees though. lol.

I think his main issue is staff he always has different people there, and they always seem overwhelemed. Unfortunately thats why I won't return there and I wouldn't let my family or friends go there either. I couldn't adjust to my glasses and no one could help me. Or at least no one who knew how to adjust them anyway. There supervisor was clueless and the Manager was a $#@&*

It is just a sign of the times.
At one time you knew what to expect when you walked in the his office. You were cared about, you felt like this is the right place to be. And if something was not right they would make it right. All the ladies were very nice and Knew what they were doing.
That is gone. You are just another body that pays the bills now and if you dont come back, well some one else will. And he did start getting greedy when he found out he could bill your medical and you vision insurance at the same time. As long as he did the extra testing ( photo of your eye, fields test).
And for all thoses who thinks his exam is so good , the first machine you look into is an autorefractor and every walmart optician when the do the pre screen before you see the doctor, uses that to get an idea where you are with your RX. Then they do the A- B 1- 2 to fine tune.... and makes sure your glasses are right.
All Lolalty to his patients and staff is gone, you are only good as long as he feels you are usefull, then your and acceptable causality.
I hope and pray that Matt Jr does not follow down the same path.
Once you get the God sydome you are done.
NEVER ACCEPT YOUR GLASSES FROM AN UNLICENSED OPTICIAN(unless the dr is there to help or another licensed optician).

By your comments I can tell you have never fallen on hard times in your life. And I truely hope you never have too. But for those that do maybe you should show a little bit more compassion or keep it to your self. First of all having to receive Free glass is bad enough, you get to choose cheep one that tend to break easy and are truely ugly. And yes something is better then nothing, but tell that to your teen that is not used to this. Every where you go you are treat as if you have a disease, where when you call for and apt you can get in any time any day I am told I can get in only one tue at 10:30 3 wks from now, Well I have to take of work for this so the so call free glasses are not free. And after the way you are treated and rushed thru the office I would have been better off any where else. And when things turn around and they will turn around I wont be call there or anywhere eles that treated me like that. I am the same person no matter where my insurance come from or how pays for it. Hey Big Corp Dont pay taxes you pay for there insurance too.

There used to be a great eye doc at Target in Avon. Try there. I like being able to get my shopping done while my daughter gets her exam.
I strongly recomend Target Optical. Great service and the eye doctor and staff are really nice and professional

JC Penny optical at Midway Mall are good as well, and they are having a sale currently.

Both the Dr. and his son are excellent. I have went to other eye doctors but they keep me coming back. My son is a preemie and needed a special check done on his eyes when turned 1. Matt Sr. made an exception and did it for me. I tell people all the time how good he is and have never had a reason not to recommend him
