Fine, but I don't look for a handout. I take care of my family. We had insurance when we rented an apartment when we relocated and we have always had insurance on our homes. While I feel badly for this family, they didn't have renters insurance. The guy who hit the house will ultimately be responsible for their belongings. They should find a church that is willing to help. Although, I do hate it when people can't find time to go to church but that is the first place they go to when they need help. I am compassionate, but you need to take responsibility.I dont know the Melvin family extremly well but I have met them a few times and talked to Barb on the phone quite a bit. They are awesome loving people and they dont deserve any of this negativity! What ever happened to helping one another and standing strong in the cummunity? As for the man that lost his life I feel for his family too the whole situation is very sad.Instead of bashing anyone or saying they shoulda or he shouldnt have...its done it cant be takin back so lets just stand up and help if your family was in a devastating situation you would want someone to step up and help ..right???So as the old saying says ..DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WANT DONE UNTO YOU!

I feel terrible for this family, not only a tragic accident but their house burning down with all their possessions must be devastating.
It should also be a warning to those who do not have renters insurance to go and get it! We pay about $125 a year for $30,000 worth of coverage through State Farm (Actually costs less when you add in the multi-policy discount with 2 cars). Hopefully we never have to use it but it's nice to have that security.
I never had it when I was single but once my husband moved in we realized we don't have top of the line things but it would cost a lot to replace our clothes, tvs, game console, mountain bikes..etc. Add having kids and their stuff and it adds up. While it can't replace family heirlooms and photos, it can replace those beds, furniture and appliances.
And don't forget with the holiday season comes Christmas tree fires and burglars stealing those nice new gifts.
