Simply put, lorain hates to spend money on roads.
Lorain refuses to tear down filthy old factories and take out us steel.
Lorain needs better teachers not new buildings.
Lorain is letting the water front go to waste.
Lorain need casinos.
Lorain is letting a young person who has never had a real job hold office.

Born and raised in Lorain and I can agree with most of those (minus the comment I'm guessing about the Mayor).

There is nothing to do in Lorain. I drove through there the other day with a friend who had never been there. I was embarrassed. The roads are beyond deplorable. The old, vacant buildings are an eyesore. The city needs to find grants to tear these down. New businesses are going to come into an area that appears so blighted. I must say downtown looks really nice and the river area is much improved, but the rest of the town is crappy. I have no desire to move back there at all. Out of my closest friends from high school, NONE of us live any closer than 45 minutes away. We all left and none plan to move back.

I can't believe they would spend so much money to redo broadway. When the condition of Kolbe road is just TERRIBLE. I see Amherst is going to resurface their part of Kolbe rd. Lorain should do the same.

They spend who knows how much money on broadway. Yet there are potholes all over the city that need filled.

Everyone is different. Everyone's definition of "real job" is different.

I lived in Cleveland for 25 years. 5 years ago we moved to Lorain. Let me tell you' you can gripe all you want, but Lorain with all it's
faults is still a walk in the park compared to Cleveland.

The reason why lorain sucks is because of no jobs. No jobs, no tax revenue. Almost every job i have had was out of lorain and expect us to pay city taxes for what? So they can slap a coat of paint on Broadway! We really don't even have a highschool. The roads are awful, the jails are over crowded, assault, murder, drug, and human trafficking crimes are all you read about in the papers. This is just a guess but there seems to be more families on public assistance than working families. What used to ne a boom town is now a cesspool of crap. The further from the lake you go, the crappier the town gets. By the time you get to the south side, the more you wish you never came.

I lived in lorain from 1976- October 1977. Moved to taylor mi, yes lorain ohio wasn't glamorous, but they had nice modern southview high . In taylor i went to outdated taylor center high school. I lived in elyria ohio from april 74 till moving to lorain. Again, i liked their schools. Many bullies though. It is what u make of it. But, even poor people can go to brand new high school and newer public schools. Hopefully staff will meet challenges to teach in these schools. Things have been strategized to give value and priority to futuristic public schools. Taylor michigan and some other cities can't brag on their school building. Also taylor used to have among worst school system in michigan if not usa. They go by scores. Be proud lLorainat least has used taxes wisely to look to tge future. Who know when taylor and other cities will meet challenge that lorain has met for cutting edge schools.thks

1) U.S Steele still operates and if such a time is necessary, such as an attack on the U.S it can support our economy if needed. 2) School systems and teachers don't suck it's the piss poor students that don't know what they are doing and don't care that suck. If students applied themselves, our school systems would improve. 3) Our roads would improve if Lorain had more jobs to increase money, in fact if U.S Steele reopened all the jobs it would make our city flourish, but business don't wanna come here, because people with low income don't attract jobs. 4) The mayor may be young, but he's doing the best he can with very little money.

(1)There is NO reason to tear down US Steel. NONE.
(2)Lorain does NOT need a casino...that ship sailed a long time ago. The casino "market" in northern Ohio is now saturated.
(3)Lorain needs JOBS...real JOBS. Tech jobs, Mfg Jobs, etc.
(4)the roads are HORRIBLE (agreed)
(5)Lorain has ignored the roads and infrastructure of the city for decades (what a shame)
(6)the Street dept, parks dept, and other city gov agencies need an overhaul (from top down. get rid of the lazy workers that don't put in a full days work).
(7)Lorain has too much section 8 housing, absentee landlords, run down houses & buildings. Enough with the section 8. No more "in-fill" housing. Tear down ALL dilapidated Bldgs (residential & commercial).

I agreeLorain has way too many alow income housing and if that wasn't bad enought, the banks, Welss Fargo mainly, are donating foreclosed homes to charities for $1.00 that sit right in very nice neighborhoods for low income housing which brings the vibrant neighborhoods down. I can't stand it. Elected officials won't do anything .. They lost my vote!

Lorain has so much potential. When I look around downtown it makes me want to cry, those gorgeous buildings right near the water left to deteriorate and rot. The historic area needs to be revitalized, the roads need to be fixed, they need more tax revenue, and they need to tear down non-historic vacant buildings/houses (or start selling them for $500 like Detroit). As long as the public schools have a rating of 2....yes 2 out of 10 it will be hard to get people to move back into the city. The property taxes are among the cheapest I've ever seen. If they just doubled the property taxes they would have more money for roads and schools. The poverty rates are very high though so I'm not sure they can even do that. When I look to move elsewhere like Rocky River, Amherst, Bay Village where the schools are rated high the property taxes are what keeps me in Lorain. If I can pay $100-150 a month in prop taxes and send my kids to private school for free, I keep thinking I should stick it out a little longer. We have everything in our favor, major highways, railways, a port, lakefront properties, a historic district but no pride. How do we get industry back? How do we save the children who are living in meth houses and going to school hungry? How do we get the people who live here to take care of their homes? How can we revitalize the things we have to put Lorain back on the map as an up and coming area? It will take a lot of work but it's possible.

I love Lorain. It's the whinny lazy people that live here that bring the town down. Clean your yards, keep your house in good repair and help report the drug dealers and we can turn this town around. No one wants to come to a nasty dirty town.

And it's all being pocketed. When a city falls to proverty guidelines the federal gov sends aid grants that city hall pockets. Don't let in 2019 Chase get AUDITOR job he wants. Now he bout have ins broke inn debt.l
