We have lived in the Bay Area of California, Portland, Oregon, Washington State, North Coast of Oregon and chose Florence, AL when we retired. We love it here. There are good people here. Maybe it's so good because all the people who don't seem to like it leave. That's a good thing. We would not live anywhere else. We drive up to Nashville (2 hours) when we want big city stuff, or down to Birmingham (2 hours) or even over to Memphis. Florence is growing at a nice pace. We're very glad we found Florence, Alabama.

I live in the shoals area. Next time you get pulled overand they start harassing you because they will because they are a bunch of losers that never had friends in high school then get out the car lock your doors and tell them to bring the dogs. If the dogs can't sniff anything then they can't make u unlock your doors and you just made them do their donut eating job. And if they do sniff anything out it's gonna be the same charge. So who cares. It's not a bad place to live at all

Florence people think they are big-city.
It's funny actually.
They are just still rednecks trying to act like they aren't!
Alabama is full of nothing but dominatrix women who whip their husbands, and men who take their anger at their wives out on all other women.
They shoot guns outside, and get LOUD trucks to make loud sounds in order to prove their manhood. I think they gots a small wee-wee! Real men don't let their wives run all over them, and they don't have to prove anything. Immature lil boys is all you can find!

I visited here and all I saw is corn.
Miles and miles o corn.
And cows.
And tractors.
And one Wal-mart and a Books-a-Million.
I'm going to go watch children of the corn now to get a laugh!

Being from Chattanooga, TN originally I moved around, and lived, many places including 13 years in Florence, Alabama. I now live south of Atlanta, Georgia and am trying with all my will to sell my home and move back to Florence. Florence is one of the best places I have lived. It's natural beauty serves me, as a photographer, with endless material. The people are very friendly and open. For it's size it has a very good selection of places to eat (normal business hours of course) and the traffic can't be beat. Here you never find easy traffic, always find people on edge and road rage and high crime. I don't know how many different places you have lived but trust me Florence is an Oasis compared with many places and if you really want to find something you don't have within one and half hours you have Memphis, Nashville, Birmingham or Huntsville that you could drive to, enjoy, and return home in the same day. There aren't many places in the nation that you have so many diverse cities and opportunities within your daily driving and return abilities. I disagree being able to live in the Shoals area is a blessing of God and unfortunately many overlook it due to just not knowing what really is out there.
Thank you. Your comment makes me look forward to moving to Florence. I currently live in Charleston, SC - the jewel of the South and I LOVE it here. I was apprehensive about moving away from this lovely city to a small town, but your comment encourages me.

I've lived in Florence my whole life. And maybe when I was younger I would've said how much I didn't like this town but living here and maturing has actually made me love it here. Cops are gonna be assholes sometimes,it's there job to protect the law but that's no reason to not want to live here. It's a small town with not a whole lot to do,but you most the time can find something whether its going to one of the great restaurants we have or just going downtown to walk and look at all the Christmas lights during the season around the park and fountain or just go look at all the old stores. No you can't buy alcohol here on Sundays but if you really want it you could drive up to Tennessee and its not that far. Florence is a small town with nice people and its really pretty here.

What's wrong with Florence? At least it's quiet. Quiet and nice people. I like small towns that's why I like to live where I do.

I've lived in Florence all of my life. I live downtown and have never been pulled over in the middle of the night. As far as smoking pot, that's still illegal here, moron. Move somewhere that's legalized it. They way all of you people that are putting Flo-town down haven't been here long enough or haven't taken the time to make friends. I for one am proud that there isn't bars/clubs on every corner.
