The county is approving a variance that will only make a terrible traffic situation even worse. Mark my words, once the Wal-Mart is built, traffic will be a real nightmare, and the county will point their finger at the state DOT and say it's a state problem since Hwy 154 and Hwy 29 are Georgia roads. The real problem is that there is no real way for that small footprint of space to handle the thousands of additional cars per day that can only use Hwy 154 to enter or exit.

County officials drool over the prospect of large stores like Wal-Mart coming in. Somewhere along the line they developed the belief that it is their responsibility to bring more money to the county. Unfortunately, they do this without the forethought of the affect to the community with these "progressive" developments. Like we do with the existing Wal-Mart that is one exit south of Hwy 154, my wife and I will simply not take our patronage there. It isn't Wal-Mart's fault, they are just trying to do good business; but we won't support unbridled growth when the primary concern is not the local citizens. Unfortunately for the homeowners who live along subdivisions on 154 between 34 and 29, their property values plummeted when the decision was announced. We are looking for a new home now and won't even consider that area because of the traffic that will come in. Oh well, at least the chaps in Palmetto and Tyrone will have a convenient place to drop their money on cheap, imported goods. Don't you love "progress?"
