Just saw a feature on the business channel regarding the current price of a Boston Brownstone. Seems the taxes in downtown Boston, on the Brownstone, are half of what we pay for the same valuation in Hopkinton. So, if I move to downtown Boston I could save nearly $4000 a year in taxes.

maybe not as bad as in Hopkinton, but the property tax in Richmond is out of control as well

all these little towns with separate highway depts, police, clerks, etc... one big expense we could all save with is if these towns would come together to purchase INSURANCE and other benefits packages for town employees... several towns and really, the whole state should be buying this stuff as a group

purchasing power is called such for a reason, if you shop a really large purchase around you're going to get some preferential rates, but instead all these little towns pay top dollar for the various insurance coverages that they provide for employees

you've got low to mid level town workers with salaries in the low-mid 20s up to mid 30s, and their benefits packages run 15-20k ???

understandably, all the different unions involved when it comes to municipal employees would certainly make grouping everyone more difficult, but it's not impossible, and in the long run everyone of us, INCLUDING the union members would be better off... less money spent for the same benefits frees up more cash for everyone
whether it be lower taxes, or money spent elsewhere where it's sorely needed, or even for raising those municipal employees compensation
when it's warranted

more freed up money in the budget is a win for EVERYONE, about the only ones that wouldn't be happy about it are the insurance companies that have been gouging all of us for decades

we already have several towns all sending their kids to a regional school district (Chariho)... if the towns can manage to figure out how to allocate that massive expenditure to each individual municipality, then how is those same towns can't come together to purchase other goods, services, and employee benefit package costs
