Full story: TwinCities.com

Would you pay $7 per trip to ride a Metro Transit bus across town? Probably not.

Why don't we put an end to taxpayer's picking up the tab for government worker's mass transit fares? Let them buy their own damned tickets. The free ride is over for you Government BUMS!

Reformulate mass transit.

Part time drivers with free market wages and benefits.

Smaller vehicles with more flexible routing. Commuter vans. Even mini-vans.

Mr. Lamb, just how much would a Metro Transit ride cost without state and Federal subsidies? I think the taxpayers have a right to this information.

Don't bother trying to understand these rants as it is a complete waste of effort. The ostensible reason is that all public employee's are blood sucking greedy morons who contribute nothing and take everything from the poor oppressed taxpayer. Whenever you want to trot out a new idea to remove funding from government, you misdirect the non believers by slamming the right wings new lepers, public employee's. Now a sensible attack would be to question why it is undesirable to keep develop-able land from private investors who might choose to sell to the met council but might want. You could also ague that the met council has no business funding "affordable living" housing in competition with the private sector. Both would be valid but apparently are too much of a challenge for some to argue. As for $7 bus rides, what in the world is wrong with that. Try taking a cab for $7 bucks and see if you get any takers.

Never gonna happen. Dayton will veto. There would be mass outrage if fares rose to $7 a ride.

Who would pay $7 to ride the 16 bus??? It'd be cheaper taking a cab.

What's the point of proposing such massive cuts when there is 0% chance of them happening? Legislators need to stop wasting everyones time.

Weird, Republican's trying to cut another thing that effect's the middle class.

I think the larger share of the cost should fall on the rider and not the tax payer.

I also think the larger share of taxes should be paid by the larger generators of income.

There is no reason to CUT the taxes of the rich and business. Mobile oil should not be boasting of their massive profits while not paying taxes.

Two terms of George Bush tax cuts didn't work. We still lost 800,000 jobs in this couintry the month President Obama was sworn in.

Tax cuts don't create jobs! It creates fat cats!!

You obviously haven't taken a cab lately. The Republicans make all these proposals so they can go back to voters in the next election and try to outdo one another over who cut the most and the deepest. The fat cats just keep getting fatter and the rest of you continue to be brainwashed into voting for them and cutting your own throats.

I wouldn't say middle class. I've seen Metro Transit figures that stated 80% of riders are students, seniors, and the poor. The new republican legislature seems to just want to stick it to the cities and less fortunate as hard as possible. In a way it seems to be just petty vindictiveness. They'd better hope for brighter days with all their cuts, cause if it doesn't happen they're gone.

I'm for eliminating all buses and light rail. At least that would cut down on the number of "gang bangers," homeless and low-lifes that use them to get to the Mall of America.
Keep it up, Republicans! Turn this country back into a refuge for the rich and the white like God intended!
So you want to add 80 million more riders in cars on the road then? Get serious. People have to travel. If there are no buses, no mass transit, that means more cars on the roads. That's the last thing we need.

Just fire all the drivers. First one on the bus gets to drive it until his or her stop, then the next person takes over. This would save millions! Busing of the people, by the people and for the people--how patriotic! The Republicans would be orgasmic.

Don't you see? The brighter day is the cuts themselves. No substantive progress beyond cuts is anticipated or desired.

Where in the world do you get your info about government workers riding the bus....and for free? Are you one of those low life, non working type who clogs up the bus stops downtown with your potty mouths sucking up governmnent aid? Please answer that. If government employment is so great, apply for a job and get one there.

I just read some news about one million refugees are fleeing somewhere in Africa to other parts, which made me think of millions of middle east refugees, crowding into Jordan,Egypt etc. So what with the illegal millions already here and still coming, do you think The east Metro area can hold millions by way of the Metro councils affordable housing?

You know, we could save real money by going to a unicameral legislature, reducing its size by cutting at least half the current number of members, cutting office staffs and per diem. Of course, what legislator is going to allow this to go to the voters? It's time for US to take back our government from both the Republicans and Democrats who are the biggest bunch of self-serving hypocrites around. Huge savings would also come from reducing the number of county governments in this state by 75%. That system was set up when it took days to travel by horse and buggy to the county seat. We could consolidate into eight or ten county districts.

The above changes would cut the cost of state and county government by half, saving billions of taxpayer money per year (that could go to education and health care for the middle and lower class). Of couse, this makes too much sense, so it doesn't have a chance in hell.

You need an enema as you're way too full of poop! Ask the Metro Transit Police. They'll confirm that all they (Government stooges) need is their employment ID.

$425.00 per month Vehicle payment insurance (plus loss on vehicle depreciation)
I want one of them there buses at the corner of my dirt road 5 times a day.(especialy since we all are subsidizing the ride costs)

Where do I sign up to join you at the Public Trough?

How much do those "Sheeple Passes" cost?

Oh, and by the way....the point of this article is the "complaint" from Government Dependents about them and their Dependent Constituents having to pay closer to actual costs for what will still be a ride subsidized by their neighbors.
