Why is it that all other states (Mass & NY particularly) can get the streets down to bare pavement but for some reason Vermont (Bennington & Pownal particularly) can't? Come on people we live in New England get with the program. Even Connecticut keeps their roads cleaner than ours. No states have any money so that excuse is really getting old. Maybe it it time to reevaluate our budget items and go through our school budgets with a fine tooth comb and see if everything is really a need or a want!!!!

WTH do school budgets have to do with it? Ummm and different entities than the town/State plowing budgets.
How much more do you want to chop out of school budgets yet expect them to do more educating and more filling in for parents?
If you want more services as a taxpayer, you have to pay more.

Agree - plow and salt the sh** out of the roads - this town is HORRIBLE at keeping the roads even semi-passable

Actually, NY roads were much worse this morning than VT roads. First time Bennington was ahead of the curve.

If they lower the school taxes then they can raise the town taxes and take care of the roads. For what we are paying for school taxes the kids should be getting more out of education that what they are(and come out of high school better educated). Maybe if they let industry come into town they would have more tax dollars to work with. I could go on and on but the bottom line is the safety of the people in this town. They are not plowing from 9pm to 3am - are there not places in town that have employees out on the road at that time. Isn't it easier to plow during those hours when there aren't as many cars on the roads.....but you pick up snow during those hours? If they raised the taxes for a good enough reason then go for it.....

You can salt till hell freezes but if there is little or no traffic on that road
its useless.... Why would you waste the salt knowing there is 20 inches of snow
coming to bury it??? The cities I have been in salt intersection and hills only
until the snow subsides.... And further more, what is your sss doing out driving
in a major snow storm??? You get your cigs and alcohol before the storm, not during
the storm....

Most other states use salt brine (liquid) or a combination of
salt and brine.... They also water down the salt as it's being
loaded on the trucks which helps melt it faster and it doesn't
bounce all over the place when they spread it.... Give them 20
years or so and they'll catch up to the rest of the world....

I thought those salt shakers at Carmody's looked funny...
The bartender blamed it on the lighting.....
