What a great kid. We are sad that Shay was taken from her family and friends so soon. I will miss seeing her compete in Softball, Basketball, getting awards for her achievements in school. I will miss the kid who lived right around the corner. Always happy, funny, very bright, and just a great kid. This is a sad day for all of us who knew her, and know her family. Our thoughts and prayers will go out to her and her family for the rest of our lives. We love you Shay!!

They should enforce speed limit at school zones and have police officers and volunteers help get kids crossings the state of Texas has that and it's. Terrific people actually follow and respect school zones. I use to think they were overdoing it but after this it's perfect for California. I use to live here and I see how people did not respect school zones.

It was an unfortunate event that could have been prevented if the driver was paying attention.they shoul put a Stop Sign there. Most drivers do not follow speed limits unless they see a cop car close by.when cars from the Bellagio side pass Browning to go to Morningside they are blocking the view of the Kids using the crosswalk and some cars going fast in Browning road might not see them.Today they have a guy with a Stop sign helping the kids cross.its just sad that we wait for things to happen before we do something.Let's ask the City of Delano to put a 4 way stop in that crossing so we can prevent another accident from happening.Prayers to Shaylyn and her family.

Accidents are when a tire blows out! And u have no control of the situation. But this lady was not paying attention or was probably late to her destination! And she should admit to it and come clean with the truth! She was distracted by somthing texting and driving! In A hurry Most of us do it!! Why because were not being mindful! If she would of been paying attention shay would of made it to class and she would of made it to her destination. I Hope justice is made for all the grieving famliys can find clousure Rest In Paradise

People are so quick to judge. Only person to judge is God. This was a terrible accident it could have happened to any of us. If its confirmed she was texting why hasn't the police department came out and say so? They already said speed wasn't a factor it was a lifted truck. We don't know only she knows and she will have to live with that the rest of her life.

If anything DUESD should have hired crossing guards to cross the kids safely. Why does something like this have to happen so they can take action!!!

Most people drive really fast around school zones. Even is driver that did hit poor Shay was text or not, she still should of been paying attention. My aunt lives near Almond tree and this morning I almost saw another kid get hit by a driver that wasnt paying attention. Ahhhhh people slow down!!!! These kids are trying to cross the street and make to the other school. Jeez!

I think the little girl should have waited for the truck to pass by because it was a 250 ford with tallass wheels like duh how couldn't you see that o.0 & I know the driver , the little girl was texting too and walking with her little brother her brother could of pulled her outta the way or that girl could screamed or something ?!
